TV show slammed for cringey Sophie Monk and Stu Laundy interview

THE Project is being slammed on social media by viewers for the “worst interview” with Sophie Monk and Stu Laundy.

Sophie Monk and Stu Laundy's awkward interview

LAST night Sophie Monk and her new beau Stu Laundy made a show of being in love on The Project for what was supposed to be a routine interview.

But the interview went on, it became increasingly awkward and viewers were not impressed.

Clips and photos of the interview shared on the show’s Facebook and Instagram pages have accumulated a tidal wave of negative comments.

One of the top comments on Facebook said it, “was the worst interview I’ve seen on [The Project]. Totally disrespectful of Sophie and especially Stu who looked like he wanted to walk out”.

The Project first ran an interview with Bachelorette runner-up and still heartbroken Jarrod Woodgate who received a wave of unexpected sympathy after he was dumped in the final episode, despite being nicknamed a “stage-five clinger” for most of the series.

The show then moved onto Monk and Laundy. Monk began her appearance by shutting down recent pregnancy rumours and confirming her and Stu are still together.

Waleed Aly then turned the conversation to the subject of unlucky-in-love Jarrod, saying they do “need” to talk about him.

The Panel joked about Monk breaking his heart and asking if she felt she should have done it earlier to save him the heartache.

Monk replied: “No, because I wasn’t ready earlier”.

Then it got really awkward.

Host Gorgi Coghlan began: “Now I’ve been honest on the show”.

Laundy interrupted with: “I know, I heard, team Jarrod,”

Coghlan replied: “I know, but hey, I’m just being honest”.

“All right,” the Bachelorette winner said to a gobsmacked Coghlan.

Coghlan continued: “But I want to ask, someone like you who’s got lots of money, thankfully four really healthy kids. What was your reason for going on the show? Like what was ...”

Without missing a beat, Laundy shot back: “One-hundred-percent this girl. One-hundred-percent”.

But the cringe factor wasn’t over. Comedian and panellist Meshel Laurie said to Monk: “I think you’ve done the classic woman thing where you say that you want one thing but what you actually go for is something else.

“Because as you said you know Jarrod intellectually, you think that’s ticking all your boxes. You said in the beginning. I just want a down-to-earth, normal guy who wants to get married and have kids.

“What you’ve chosen is a millionaire, who’s already married and had a vasectomy”.

Laundy, looking more than a little offended jumped in: “Sorry, sorry. I’m on team Jarred now”.

The audience laughed but the awkward nature of the exchange wasn’t lost.

Monk went on to justify her choice, saying she wanted to find someone outside her industry.

“I like to think I earn as much money as him actually,” she said.

The response online to the interview has been highly critical with many saying the interview was disrespectful to the new couple.
