Married At First Sight star Melanie Schilling has opened up about her battle with colon cancer.

The 52-year-old dating and relationship expert has promised to fight through the cancer despite feeling “a little flat”.

“I’m feeling a little flat today actually, to be totally honest with you,” the Australian TV star told UK’s Magic Radio.

“I’m going through chemo, I’m on my third cycle now and I’m just starting to feel a bit sick,” she said.

“I was saying earlier, it sort of feels like being hungover, like I’ve been drinking all night, that’s kind of how I feel.”

Schilling explained she was trying to find a way to juggle everything as she hasn’t stopped working.

“This thing is not beating me. I’m here to fight, I just need to make some adaptations,” she said.

When asked how she is mentally dealing with the treatment, Schilling said she has had to put specific time in her schedule to decompress,

Despite loving work and wanting to say yes “to everything”, the MAFS expert said she has had to surround herself with the “right team” of people who support her and encourage her to say no to jobs that are not meaningful.

She would rather spend the time with her “gorgeous family and friends”, Schilling explained.

In December, Schilling revealed to her Instagram followers that she had been diagnosed with colon cancer.

She told her followers she was expected to make a full recovery, although it would be a “rough road ahead.”

“About a month ago when I was filming in Australia I developed severe stomach cramps on set, I put it down to all the travel I’d been doing and the upset it caused to my system,” Schilling wrote in a post on Instagram alongside a photo of her with daughter Maddie and husband Gareth.

“I saw my GP in Sydney and he put it down to constipation, gave me some laxatives and sent me on my way. Fortunately I knew something still wasn’t right so I booked in for a scan when I returned to the UK. On Thursday I was told I had colon cancer and in an instant my whole life changed.”

Schilling had keyhole surgery in the days leading up to Christmas to remove a 5cm tumour in her colon, which she said was successful.
