Many took to Twitter to show their frustration with Joel Madden, after he chose Danny Ross over Kiyomi Vella, who he earlier described as giving "performance of the night" with her version of Bjork’s 'It’s oh so quiet’.
#thevoiceau it just dosent make sense. Joel said that kiyomi was the best of the night ? @thevoiceau
The epic 2 1/2 hour marathon show featured all 16 finalists from the four teams performing, with each coach making a surprise selection in who they wanted to save.
After watching Harrison Craig’s stunning rendition of Elvis's 'Can’t help falling in Love', Delta said she wanted to "get up on stage and slow dance" with the man who’s deep singing voice belies his years (and the stutter when he speaks). But while Seal agreed the performance was "worthy of Elvis", he chose to save Alex Gibson, because he wanted to "see more" of the artist.
Delta and Ricky also made controversial selections - each choosing an artist they clearly enjoy working with, rather than the stand-out performance from their team.
Steve Clisby, 67, was saved by Delta for the second time in the competition, while Ricky chose to save Luke Kennedy because "he’s planning lots of cool things" with the artist. Although, to be fair, Kennedy’s rendition of 'Please don’t ask me’ was one of the night’s highlights.
Away from the music, the audience was treated to some interesting fashion choices, with Delta channelling the 1990s with a lace belly top. She must have saved some excess fabric for her artist Celia Pavey - who also thought it was 1994, and chose to wear a lace choker around her neck.
But the craziest outfit of the night had to be from the man Joel Madden decided to save - Danny Ross. Wearing an outfit widely described on Twitter as a 'Pirate’, Ross somehow managed to avoid laughing while walking out on staged dressed in a long green coat, white ruffle shirt and red bandanna. Well done.
Strange fake moody pirate. I don't get it. #TeamJoel #TheVoiceAU
Some of the biggest stars of the night weren't seen on screen - with incredible set designers changing the look of the stage completely within a few short minutes of each performance. Working everything from a 'Man in Black' set for a Johnny Cash song, to trying to recreate a Bjork film clip - the crew must have been exhausted by the end, and was hopefully shouted a few well deserved beers at the end of the night.
Audiences now have a week to decide who they want to see go through to the next round - so if you missed the show, you can expect to see plenty of promos and highlights on Channel 9 over the next six days. Get voting.
