The Masked Singer Australia: Every clue so far

Part-guessing game, part-singing competition and absolutely bonkers. Here are all the clues about the remaining celebs on The Masked Singer.

The Masked Singer Australia

Channel 10’s newest musical reality show is like nothing we’ve seen on Australian screens before. We are officially hooked.

Eight celebrities remain hidden beneath elaborate costumes - and we're all equally as obsessed with trying to crack the riddles that may lead us to a correct answer.

So far, Jackie O and Dannii Minogue have successfully picked two names, with fans playing at home enthusiastically backing them.

But many of us still feel as in the dark as unfairly disadvantaged international judge Lindsay Lohan, who has been throwing out far-fetched guesses including Stevie Nicks, Charlie Sheen and  Joey Fatone. (We wish).

Luckily, the rumoured appearances and cryptic hints aired each episode have had Twitter abuzz with educated guesses, with many thinking they've just about nailed it. And we think they may be right.

Early on it was revealed that in the mix of 12 celebrities hides an ARIA Award winner, an MTV Award winner, a Logie Award winner, an Order of Australia winner, a World Cup winner and a Hall of Famer.

A “big superstar” is said to be unmasked, too, and judging by the show’s panellists’ reactions, it’s someone very unexpected. After Ryan Reynolds dressed as a unicorn made headlines singing a rendition of Tomorrow from Annie on the South Korean version of the series last year, it could be anyone.

Here’s who could be hiding beneath each reamining costume:

WHO IS THE UNICORN?

Is it Deni? Picture: Supplied

The first official hint for the unicorn is: “I have been the princess but never the queen.”

Deni Hines, 49, is rumoured to be hiding behind the bizarre disguise, with many calling it a “no-brainer”.

Deni, the daughter of popular ’70s singer Marcia Hines, enjoyed chart success in the ’90s with her top five single It’s Alright.

She previously sold out venues across the country when she headed on tour with jazz artist James Morrison.

Music writer Cameron Adams thinks it’s as clear as day.

But others have gone in a different direction, reaching a little further with guesses of Kelly Rowland. The star's name was trending on Twitter Tuesday night from the sheer amount of fans sure it was her.

The clues have hinted she was once part of a group, which could be Destiny's Child, and her vocals sound both professionally trained and American.

WHO IS THE LION?

A former prime minister ... really?
A former prime minister ... really?

Seen boxing in promo clips and singing Panic! At The Disco’s High Hopes, this mysterious figure comes with the clue: “As a young Lion, I entered a competition that would change everything.”

While judges have thrown out guesses like Pauline Hanson, Rebel Wilson and Julia Morris, those playing along at home are sure it's Kate Ceberano, with the clues below seeming to point directly at her when stacked up:

“You have to fight hard to be on top on this big island” — Ceberano’s single Bedroom Eyes was the top-selling single in Australia in 1989.

“As a young lion, I entered a competition that would change everything” — according to Ceberano’s own website, the very first award she ever won was a third placing in the TV series Search for a Star in 1981.

“I pride myself in being Brave” — Ceberano’s debut solo album was called Brave.

“ … In whatever I try, and I’ve tried a lot” — Kate’s done musicals, movies, hosted a variety show, written a memoir, been a festival director, etc.

WHO IS THE WOLF?

Singing Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s, Shallow, our first clue as to who this secret singer might be is: “I’m not the big bad wolf, but I ain’t little green riding hood either.”

Hughesy’s guess is AFL legend “big, bad, Barry Hall” but others have guessed Hugh Sheridan or Adam Lambert.

But after Monday night's episode, viewers and Jackie O are pretty sure it's former Australian Idol contestant Rob Mills.

Here are the clues that point to the star:

“Am I the wolf? I have that reputation. Maybe that’s why I’m up all night” — Mills’ one album to date was titled Up All Night.

“As a pup, I was keen on sport” — said while holding an AFL football. Mills is a dedicated Hawks supporter and “growing up in Melbourne meant AFL was part of his being.”

“It was my dream to make it to the top with huge crowds cheering me on” — He competed in Australian Idol, making it into the top five as he performed in front of cheering audiences each week.

“I’m constantly being misjudged and underestimated” — Mills has transitioned to a prolific musical theatre career, but some still associate him with that infamous Paris Hilton one-night stand.

“I’ve been an apprentice” — he appeared as a contestant on Celebrity Apprentice

WHO IS THE SPIDER?

Rumour has it Jessica Mauboy is behind the creepy-crawly costume. According to sources quoted earl on by The Daily Mail, the 30-year-old’s famous vocals were a dead giveaway as she took the stage, and she was quickly escorted off the stage after her performance in an effort to conceal her identity.

Jessica’s management refused to confirm or deny her casting on the series when approached for comment, and she did her best to shut down rumours when speaking to E! News: “That would be fun though. I love playing those sorts of games. I’d love to watch! It would be quite fascinating to see who is who.”

The official clue as to who’s behind the mask is: “I love to write. I am proud to say my words have gone all over the world”, which has many thinking it could be Jade MacRae instead.

MacRae’s songwriting credits include hits for singers across Europe, and the remaining clues hint at her further:

“There was a lot of love at home, and I learned all I know from Daddy longlegs” — MacRae’s musical education started early, as her dad is acclaimed musician Dave MacRae.

“Fighting your way to the top is hard — sometimes you’re adored, and sometimes you get squashed, but I’ll take the risks” — MacRae previously admitted fans and the media were “quite disappointed in the new direction” when she rebranded under the pseudonym ‘Dune’ in 2012.

WHO IS THE ALIEN?

The overwhelming consensus was Nikki Webster... And we were right! Along with Dannii Minogue, who guessed correctly straight away.

WHO IS THE RHINO?

Rugby star Wendell Sailor lifted his giant rhino mask to the judges on Tuesday night, Jackie O having picked his dance moves up straight off the bat. Viewers wholeheartedly backed her choice from day one.

WHO IS THE ROBOT?

Could this be Waleed Aly? Picture: Channel 10.

Before the show aired, Ed Kavalee speculated live on The Project that Waleed Aly could well be behind one of the masks — specifically the robot. The host denied it, though unconvincingly.

But when The Robot graced the stage, it became crystal clear we had a professional singer on our hands, Cody Simpson being the viewer's choice.

When you look at the clues, it's hard to think it could be anyone else:

“I was created by the digital age” — Simpson was discovered via YouTube, where he uploaded his own covers of popular songs

The Robot’s shown picking up plastic out of water — In 2017 Simpson was named the first United Nations advocate for oceans.

“I’ve always been connected to the water” — Simpson won two gold medals at the 2009 Queensland Swimming Championships.

“Growing up, I was surrounded by gold” — Simpson was born on the Gold Coast.

“When I was younger, my favourite animal was the butterfly, but now I prefer something that goes tweet” — The first animal is a nod to his swimming background, the second, his whopping 7.3 million Twitter followers.

WHO IS THE MONSTER?

This fluffy creature is a female celebrity who is “split between two worlds with part of me living in the shadows”. She sings Aretha Franklin’s Think, among a host of other classics.

The guesses here have been far and wide, but according to New Idea, Bindi Irwin is among the rumoured guests. Could she be hiding in the fluffy costume?

The Voice Australia star Prinnie Stevens is also rumoured to appear, according to The Daily Mail.

Topping the popular guesses on Twitter after Tuesday night's performance is The Project host Gorgi Coughlan. And the clues? Well, it all makes sense.

“I’ve always loved horses, and horses love me” — Gorgi’s a former state-level equestrian competitor who describes herself as a “horse rider” in her Twitter bio.

“In my work, you have to deal with some heavy material” — She’s currently a panellist and fill-in host on nightly current affairs show The Project.

“You don’t need a mad scientist, but you do need time in a laboratory” — She has a Uni degree in science and worked as a science teacher.

WHO IS THE PARROT?

We were put out of our misery in episode two, with the giant bird revealing itself as cricketer Brett Lee.

WHO IS THE DRAGON?

Up there with the trickiest riddle to decode, chatter is building that The Dragon is actually Grant Denyer.

Or country singer Adam Brand...

Or is it Waleed Aly?

Looking at the clues, Diesel Lizotte could also be on the money:

The clues:“Breathing fire is easy when you have petrol in your veins” — Petrol — Diesel!

“There’s great power in what I can do, it can bring tears of great sadness” — Lizotte is a blues singer.

Has been solo and “part of a team” — Diesel’s first album was released with the band The Injectors.

WHO IS THE OCTOPUS?

Revealed as Gretel Killeen in episode one, we're now able to sleep easy on this one.

WHO IS THE PRAWN?

During his first episode rendition of Suspicious Minds by Elvis Presley, the Prawn gave a special shoutout to Dannii Minogue, which suggested that he might have been linked to her romantically in the past.

But on Monday night, the cheeky crustacean lifted his mask to reveal Scottish-born TV presenter Darren McMullen, the star viewers had strongly suspected on social media.

As for host Osher Günsberg’s dream pick for the remaining celebs?

“Either netball champion Liz Ellis or Lee Lin Chin,” he told 10 Daily before the show premiered.

We guess we'll have to wait and see.

The Masked Singer Australia airs on Mondays and Tuesdays at 7.30 on Ten
