It’s the one we’ve all been waiting for. After months of delays, rumours and teasers, the official Friends reunion trailer has finally dropped – and it’s making us all cry!

HBO Max released the first full-length promo for the television special which will see all six of the cast members reunite for the first time since the show’s final episode aired nearly two decades ago.

The show, aptly titled The One Where They Get Back Together, is set to premiere in the US on May 27.

The trailer shows stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc on the original sound stage on the Warner Bros Studio lot in Burbank, California.

The trailer is full of fans’ favourite moments. It opens with the cast taking part in a quiz, revisiting one of the original episodes from season four where the friends take part in an epic trivia battle. The group also revisit key sets, re-read their iconic lines and reminisce on their first table-read.

They also sit down in front of a live audience with The Late Late Show host James Corden for an interview.

The cast got candid as they took a walk down memory lane.

“The first table-read, that’s the first time I laid eyes on any of you.” Kudrow remembered. Schwimmer noted: “Everyone was so perfectly cast.”

Unsurprisingly the cast got teary as they sat on the sofa in Monica’s apartment.

“It was an incredible time; we became best friends,” Cox said, before a very emotional Perry announced he was going to cry.

Corden told the cast: “I know you know how big the show is, what you have given so many people is an experience of huge comfort. We felt like we had these friends.”

As well as the expected tears, there’s also set to be a lot of laughs in the show. Corden asked the all-important question: “Were Ross and Rachel on a break?”

“It goes so beyond the work and what the show was, which was in and of itself just a spectacular phenomenon,” Aniston said. “But the friendships/family that came out of it … You can’t put words to that, really. It’s priceless.”

When the reunion was first announced, the lead actors all shared the same photo on Instagram with the caption, “It’s happening.” The image was shot by Mark Seliger and is from the cover of Rolling Stone back in 1995.

The reunion was pushed back several times due to coronavirus and finally finished filming on April 11 this year with the official Instagram account and HBO Max sharing an image from the set.

With many fans speculating early on whether the cast would appear in character or not, HBO released a statement back in April confirming what the reunion would look like.

“The cast will be appearing as themselves and not as their beloved characters.”

Details of when the special will air in Australia are yet to be released.
