Omar and Oz have copped a brutal punishment from Block host Scott Cam this week over their mystery money situation.

The best friends of House 5 elicited gasps of delight from the judges on entry to their living space during the judges’ walk-through.

However, the reaction quickly turned to confusion over one detail: the baby grand piano the boys had hustled to acquire to complete the luxe look of the room, which was initially quoted at a retail price of $38,000.

Shaynna Blaze, awe-struck on walking through the space, commended the boys on the sense of “grandeur”, but pointed out: “Ths is a baby grand … they didn’t win it on a prize.

“Do you remember last week I was saying in the kitchen, I was a bit worried about where they’re getting the money from? And now we’ve got a baby grand … they’re not winning every week,” she puzzled.

“I’m with her boys, how are you affording this piano? I know what they retail for,” Cam quizzed the besties at Block HQ.

“Seven thousand five hundred dollars, that’s what we got it for,” Omar responded.

“That’s impossible, they retail for $36,000.”

“Call John,” Omar laughed, as a stern Cam reminded the team of the rule that any product discounts must be no more than 50 per cent off the retail price.

“You can’t go and spend $7000 on a piano and stick that in your room and expect me to let that slide boys,” he fumed.

“We’re more than willing to put the extra $10k in …” Omar trailed off as Cam declared that would be “the chicken before the egg”.

Eventually, the boys were punished with a 3-point deduction from their total score, effectively disqualifying them from the week.

Their fellow contestants agreed with the decision, with the two mates doing their best to take it in their stride.

“It’s probably just one of those things we should have been more aware of,” Omar told producers.

Oz later refuted the claims they had broken the rules, remarking: “There is an explanation though … Everything was done right. It was the price that he wanted to give because he couldn’t sell it.

“It’s 14 years old,” he added, as fellow contestant Jenny questioned why they didn’t make that claim earlier.

“You all agreed with him anyway so it’s all good,” Oz, clearly frustrated with the punishment, replied.

“They knew what the price was and what we were going to pay for it the whole, it would have been nice if someone said it couldn’t be done,” he pointed out elsewhere to producers.

Meanwhile, the remaining contestants were left raging over the rule break, calling for a financial audit over the boys’ mysterious and seemingly lavish spending.

All is set to come to light as the week goes on.

The Block continues Monday night from 7.30pm on Channel 9
