Viewers left traumatised by newly-added true crime film on Netflix

A horrifying true crime film has just hit streaming on Netflix, with viewers left “traumatised” by the “disturbing” events depicted in the flick.

Netflix viewers were left horrified by the newly-added true crime drama Cleveland Abduction, dubbing it “one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever watched.”

The 2015 Sony Pictures film was recently added to the streaming service, introducing it to a host of new watchers who had never seen the movie before.

The film documents the infamous Ariel Castro kidnappings, which took place in Cleveland, Ohio in the early 2000s.

The story follows 21-year-old single mum Michelle Knight, played by Orange is the new Black actress Taryn Manning.

The 2015 film Cleveland Abduction was recently added to Netflix.

Michelle, who is now 40 and a successful author, was the first of three victims to be imprisoned by Castro at his home, when she was just 21 years old.

She was trapped inside for 11 years.

Eventually, Michelle befriends two other women who are also taken captive by Castro, including Amanda Berry, then 16, and Gina DeJesus, then 14.

Viewers have been left traumatised by the film.

In 2013, Berry escaped with her six-year-old daughter, Castro’s child whom she had given birth to while imprisoned, and contacted police, who rescued the other captives and arrested Castro.

Viewers were left unsettled by the dark storyline.

Taking to Twitter, one said: “Cleveland Abduction is one of the most disturbing things I’ve ever watched. There’s some sick freaks in this world.”

Another wrote: “Watching Cleveland Abduction and I’m currently deeply disturbed.”

A third penned: “So many tears, hardest movie I’ve ever watched.”

Castro was eventually sentenced to life imprisonment plus 1000 years in prison, without the chance of parole.

However, he committed suicide in his prison cell just one month after he was found guilty.
