The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers reveals first trailer and premiere date
If these difficult times we need Coach Bombay to inspire and mentor us. Thank god we found him.
Quack, quack, quack… or not?
The Mighty Ducks revival series revealed its first trailer this morning and this time, it looks like the Ducks aren’t the heroes anymore.
The 1992 story of a plucky group of underdog kids who take on the pee-wee hockey league’s hyper-competitive champions has been beloved since its release. But 29 years is a long time and the team that used to be the upstarts are now the status quo.
Which means, it’s time for some new underdogs. You can’t have a sports drama where the heroes are already the winners!
The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers will premiere on Disney+ on March 26 and the biggest draw card is the return of Emilio Estevez as Coach Bombay, ready to mentor and inspire a whole new generation of misfits out to prove their mettle.

The 60-second first look trailer sets up the classic scenario of a kid being cut from his team (the Ducks!), told that “if you can’t be great at hockey, it’s like don’t bother”.
So his mother, played by Lauren Graham who has made a career out of being the paragon of parenting on Gilmore Girls and Parenthood, suggest that they start their own team of kids deemed “too small or too slow” to play hockey.
While on the search for an ice rink, they come across Coach Bombay. And now we have ourselves a ballgame – sorry, wrong sports metaphor.
Disney announced Estevez would return to the franchise in February 2020 and while filming was disrupted due to COVID, it was able to resume in September.
The original Mighty Ducks movies franchise spawned a real hockey team in the American NHL in 1993 and is now known as the Anaheim Ducks. Anaheim is where Disney is based in California.
The Mighty Ducks is not the only childhood sports movie that has seen a revival in recent years – The Karate Kid sequel series Cobra Kai already has three seasons under its belt.
