The Crown season six: Netflix reveals first images of Prince William and Kate Middleton
Anticipation is building ahead of the sixth and final season of The Crown. Here’s the first look at Netflix’s version of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
Netflix has debuted the first pictures of The Crown’s Prince William and Kate Middleton for the upcoming sixth season of the royal drama.
The series, created by Peter Morgan, released three photos – one a close-up of Kate, one a wide-shot of the couple holding hands and strolling and another of William seated on a damask-printed sofa.
The sixth and final season of The Crown is expected to track the early days of William and Kate’s courtship when both were students at the University of St Andrews.
The official description from Netflix said: “As The Crown enters a new decade, Prince William starts at university in St Andrews, determined to lead as normal a life as possible while he still can.
“Also beginning life as a university student is Kate Middleton from Berkshire. As the pair meet for the first time on campus, a new romance and a new future for The Crown begins.”
The production revealed the scenes were filmed in St Andrews in Scotland, including in locations which the real-life royals spent time.
The timeline of the 10-episode season has not yet been confirmed, but the sixth season is likely to pick up the story just before Princess Diana’s death in August 1997 until the mid-2000s. William matriculated at St Andrews in 2001.
The characters are portrayed by rising stars Ed McVey and Meg Bellamy, who were cast in the roles late last year. The Crown is Bellamy’s first professional acting job after responding to an open audition call-out on social media. McEvoy is also a newcomer who recently graduated from drama school.
A younger actor named Rufus Kampa will play William in his mid-teens, notably during the era following Diana’s death. Paparazzi photos of filming showed scenes recreating Diana’s funeral procession, and Kampa in character next to Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip.
Returning for the sixth season alongside Pryce will be Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth, Dominic West as Prince Charles, Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana and Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker Bowles. Bertie Carvel will join the series as Tony Blair.
The sixth season of The Crown will premiere later this year.
