Samantha’s ‘replacement’ revealed for Sex and the City revival

Producers are shaking up the characters for the Sex and the City reboot, with plans for Samantha’s replacement revealed.

Apparently, it takes three new characters to make up for one Samantha Jones.

The Sex and the City revival has found its replacement for Kim Cattrall’s sex-crazed character … sort of.

The sequel series to HBO’s hit dramedy Sex and the City — titled And Just Like That …— will be sans Cattrall’s Samantha.

Instead, it will fill her gap in the central friend group with three women of colour — a shift toward inclusivity, since an all-white group of friends doesn’t make much sense in 2020s New York City. (It was previously reported that the sequel’s writing staff also would be more diverse.)

The Sex and the City revival will look very different, with three women of colour reportedly set to join the cast.

The actresses have not been announced yet, but according to TV Line, the three new characters are expected to round out Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte’s social circle.

The original Sex and the City aired from 1998 to 2004, with two additional movies in 2008 and 2010 and the spin-off CW show The Carrie Diaries (2013 to 2014).

And Just Like That … will tell the next chapter in the tale of lifestyle columnist Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker, 56), gallerist Charlotte York (Kristin Davis, 56) and lawyer Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon, 55) in 10 half-hour episodes that follow how this group of gal pals has evolved from their 30s to their 50s.

Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are returning to reprise their roles, but Kim Cattrall won’t be.

Meanwhile, rumours have flown about why Cattrall, 64, isn’t returning to play Samantha.

For years there have been whispers of “mean girl behaviour” behind the scenes that allegedly put Cattrall at odds with her castmates.

Regarding Samantha’s absence, HBO Max chief content officer Casey Bloys also gave this stone-cold reasoning: “Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave. Friendships fade, and new friendships start. So I think it is all very indicative of the real stages, the actual stages of life.”

In 2018, Parker told The Post, “I don’t have a disagreement with Kim (Cattrall), there’s no catfight. I’ve never said anything publicly, nor would I. I’ve only ever expressed admiration and gratitude for everything she contributed — and I still feel that way.”

John Corbett, who played Carrie’s ex Aiden, has confirmed that he will appear in the revival series for “quite a few episodes.”

It’s possible that he’ll be Carrie’s primary love interest, since Chris Noth, who played the infamous Mr. Big, is reportedly not returning.

And Just Like That … will air locally on Foxtel and Binge but no premiere date has been announced.
