Netflix series GLOW cancelled ahead of its final season due to the pandemic
Netflix comedy GLOW, starring Alison Brie, has been canned ahead of its final season due to the pandemic, with its stars saying the decision “sucks”.
Beloved Netflix series GLOW, starring Alison Brie and Marc Maron, has been canned ahead of its final season due to the pandemic, Variety has confirmed.
The Emmy-nominated comedy about a troupe of female professional wrestlers had been renewed for a fourth and final season last year, but plans have now officially been scrapped due to production delays, the publication reports.

A statement read: “We’ve made the difficult decision not to do a fourth season of GLOW due to COVID, which makes shooting this physically intimate show with its large ensemble cast especially challenging.
“We are so grateful to creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch, Jenji Kohan and all the writers, cast and crew for sharing this story about the incredible women of GLOW with us and the world.”
Maron, who played Sam Sylvia in the show, and Brie, whose character Ruth Wilder is no more, both took to social media to react to the news.

The news comes after production had already begun on the final season earlier this year, but was shut down early due to the pandemic.
Series creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch said the decision made by Netflix “sucks”.
The statement read in full, “COVID has killed actual humans. It’s a national tragedy and should be our focus. COVID also apparently took down our show.
“Netflix has decided not to finish filming the final season of GLOW. We were handed the creative freedom to make a complicated comedy about women and tell their stories. And wrestle. And now that’s gone.”
“There’s a lot of sh**ty things happening in the world that are much bigger than this right now. But it still sucks that we don’t get to see these 15 women in a frame together again. We’ll miss our cast of weirdo clowns and our heroic crew. It was the best job.”
They concluded with a strong message to US voters: “Register to vote. And please vote.”
GLOW stars Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, Marc Maron, Sydelle Noel, Kate Nash, Britney Young, Gayle Rankin, Kia Stevens, Sunita Mani, Jackie Tohn, Kimmy Gatewood, Britt Baron, Rebekka Johnson, Ellen Wong, Chris Lowell, Marianna Palka, Shakira Barrera, and Bashir Salahuddin.
It was inspired by the short-lived 1980s wrestling TV show of the same name, which stood for “Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling”.
GLOW is the latest in a long list of shows to have their renewals reversed due to the pandemic.
Earlier this year, fans were shocked to learn fantasy series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina would be canned after part four.
The Society and I Am Not Okay With This also had second-season renewals halted amid the pandemic, and the service announced final seasons for Ozark, The Kominsky Method and Dead to Me in July.
GLOW seasons 1 to 3 are available to stream on Netflix.
