Matt Smith warns new GoT spin-off House of the Dragon has ‘too much’ sex

One House of the Dragon star made a surprising admission about the Game of Thrones spin-off series in a new interview.

Matt Smith, star of HBO’s forthcoming Game of Thrones spin-off series House of the Dragon, recently shared his opinion that he’s spent too much time under the sheets.

Smith, who plays Prince Daemon Targaryen on the show, told Rolling Stone UK in an interview that he has questioned whether the many sex scenes he filmed were necessary.

“You do find yourself asking, ‘Do we need another sex scene?’” said the British actor.

“And they’re like, ‘Yeah, we do.’ I guess you have to ask yourself: ‘What are you doing? Are you representing the books, or are you diluting the books to represent the time [we’re living in]?’ And I actually think it’s your job to represent the books truthfully and honestly, as they were written.”

When asked his personal opinion on the number of sex scenes he had to shoot, Smith was fairly blunt.

“Yeah – slightly too much, if you ask me,” he said.

Showrunner Miguel Sapochnik had previously shared that House of the Dragon would follow a similar raw approach as its predecessor, Game of Thrones.

The 10-part series, which premieres express from the US on Binge and Foxtel August 22, opens with King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) as Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, before turning to contention over his successor for the Iron Throne.

Smith was also asked about his opinion of the negative reception (16% on Rotten Tomatoes) that his Marvel film Morbius received.

“Yeah, it was thrown under the bus,” he said about the movie. “But you just have to roll with it. What else are you gonna do? It’s a film, at the end of the day; we’re not saving lives. For whatever reason, it didn’t quite work out and …. It is what it is.”
