British crime thriller Line of Duty has a lot of dedicated fans in Australia who are going to be very happy when they hear season six is returning in two weeks.

After a two-year wait since the season five finale, the series created by Jed Mercurio will launch on streaming platform Britbox in Australia. The first two episodes will debut on April 1, with new episodes to follow weekly.

Season six launches in the UK on March 21.

The first five seasons are available across a range of streaming services including Britbox, Netflix, Acorn TV and Stan, but the new season will be exclusive to Britbox.

The suspenseful Line of Duty is centred on a team of detectives in an anti-corruption unit (AC-12) which investigates wrongdoing within the police force. The main cast includes Martin Compston, Vicky McClure and Adrian Dunbar.

Each season deals with a different case and a new suspect, which has included famous faces including Keeley Hawes, Thandie Newton, Stephen Graham and Lennie James.

The sixth season will revolve around a Detective Chief Inspector played by Scottish actor Kelly Macdonald whose propensity for the unconventional makes her a target for investigation.

British-Mauritian actor Shalom Brune-Franklin will join the cast as a Detective Constable in the unit. Brune-Franklin moved to Western Australia as a teenager and has been seen in Australian productions including Bad Mothers and Doctor Doctor. She was recently in Hugh Laurie political series Roadkill and Netflix fantasy drama Cursed.

Line of Duty premiered in 2012 on BBC Two and is one of those rare TV shows that saw TV ratings increased in each successive season. From the fourth season onwards, it was moved to the flagship channel BBC One. In the UK, the season five finale drew the series’ best ratings yet.

Creator Mercurio is also internationally known for 2018 series Bodyguard, a high-octane drama starring Richard Madden as the personal bodyguard to a controversial politician played by Keeley Hawes.
