Viserys is hosting a hunt outside King’s Landing to celebrate Aegon’s second birthday, where his teen daughter and current heir Rhaenyra (Milly Alcock) rebels against her father – who is attempting to marry her off – and goes MIA in the woods.

She’s feeling the love surrounding her baby brother, and knows it’s something the realm will never give her.

Elsewhere, over in the Stepstones, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) and Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) are fighting – and losing – their war against the Crabfeeder, which eventually culminates in bloody and spectacular fashion.

There’s a mischievousness sprinkled throughout the latest episode, instead of the largely sombre tone of the previous two, as well as a couple of standout blood and gore scenes.

And fans have taken to social media with high praise:

House of the Dragon has been renewed for a second season, after the first episode saw record ratings in Australia and around the world.

Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, it hones in on the rise and fall of House Targaryen – Daenerys Targaryen’s family – based on several chapters from George R.R. Martin’s book, Fire & Blood.
