Game of Thrones finale: James Mathison predicts murderous end to war of Westeros
The final episode of Game Of Thrones is less than a day away. And now, an expert weighs in on how the smash hit HBO series will conclude.
He was the first celebrity challenger to take on former PM Tony Abbott in the battle for Warringah won by independent Zali Stegall.
Now Thrones 360 host James Mathison is predicting the finale in the war of Westeros will be fought and likely won by another woman — Sansa Stark, killing off dragon queen, Daeneyrs.
The Foxtel presenter told News Corp Australia “you sort of have to expect the unexpected in this show, but I have a gut feeling that Sansa takes the throne by killing Daeneyrs with the dagger Arya gave her” adding fan favourite, “Jon [Snow] won’t have the bottle to kill the woman he loves.”
As the world prepares for the stunning conclusion to the epic drama, Mathison said season 8 had delivered on the show’s reputation for plot twists and blockbuster production.
Nominating episode three — “The Long Night” — was “easily the craziest episode of TV I’ve ever seen. More thrills, tension and madness than a big budget Hollywood blockbuster,” James Mathison said.
“The bar is now so high for what’s possible on television and I doubt we’ll ever see anything like it again.”
He could have done without seeing “Jamie and Brienne hooking up,” he explained, nominating his lowlights.
“Jamie and Brienne hooking up. It was awkward and weird and necessary. Plus I’m a sucker for maintaining unresolved sexual tension on TV,” he said, adding, “oh and Jon Snow not petting Ghost. Pat the damn dog, man!”
Despite not claiming the top spot in his predictions, Mathison would bend the knee for Ayra Stark, his favourite GoT character.
“I’ve always loved Arya. Feisty, clever, resourceful and fearless. She’s the hero of the show for me.”
He’s excited for the Naomi Watts-led prequel which has begun production and is expected to air next year.
“I think it’ll be amazing. It’s a tough act to follow, but I think there is such an appetite for it that they’ll make sure they get it right. Plus, I think we have seen what’s possible when fantasy is done with a lot of love and proper budgets.”
Game Of Thrones’ finale streams at 11am tomorrow on Foxtel.
