Critically acclaimed courtroom drama The Twelve is gearing up for Season 2 with some big names joining leading star Sam Neill.

BINGE and Screenwest announced the stellar line-up this morning in Western Australia, where the award-winning series will be filmed, making it WA’s biggest-ever production and one of the largest ensembles of any series produced in Australia.

Jurassic Park veteran Neill will be joined by The End’s Frances O’Connor, Mystery Road’s Tasma Walton, Deadloch’s Kris McQuade and A Place to Call Home’s Amy Mathews, among many other talented stars.

Neill will reprise his role as snooty barrister Brett Colby, while O’Connor will join him as fellow SC Meredith Nelson-Moore, with production set to start later this year across Perth and regional WA.

To have Sam Neill return, and to welcome Frances O’Connor, as part of a large and diverse ensemble cast featuring many local creatives and talent, is exciting,” Alison Hurbert-Burns, BINGE Executive Director, Commissioning, Content said in a statement.

“We have wanted to produce in WA for a long time, so it’s great to be here creating the next instalment of the award-winning The Twelve, with over 150 West Australian cast and crew, and hundreds of extras, helping to make it happen,” Hurbert-Burns added.

Season 1 of the gripping crime drama revolved around a jury sitting a controversial murder trial. However, the 12 ordinary Australians on the jury were also facing their own major struggles in their everyday lives.

The show is adapted from a Belgian series, with Season 1 of the local version starring Marta Dusseldorp, Kate Mulvany and Brooke Satchwell.

The Twelve also won the big gongs at the TV Week Logie Awards in July, with Satchwell taking out Most Outstanding Supporting Actress, and the show winning Most Outstanding Drama Series, Miniseries or Telemovie. Neill also took home the Most Popular Actor Logie.

“I think there has been a mistake,” the 75-year-old actor said immediately after accepting his award.

“I haven’t actually thought of anything to say, but I thought my name was just there to make up the numbers.”

“Look, there is so many actors in this show that I am not even sure that I was the main actor or anything like that … I don’t know why they have given this to me. Maybe it was the wig? Yeah, it was the wig.”
