First trailer drops for Amazon’s LOTR: The Rings of Power series
Amazon has dropped the first proper trailer for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power – set to be the most expensive TV series ever made.
Amazon’s Prime Video seized the opportunity to release a huge teaser trailer during tonight’s Super Bowl, dropping the first big look at The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series.
The uber-expensive, much-anticipated series will drop September this year, and we now have the very first teaser trailer for the show.
“Haven’t you ever wondered what else is out there?” a voice narrates over larger-than-life images. “There’s wonders in this world beyond our wandering. I can feel it.” The teaser trailer promises The Rings of Power will take us back to a time “before the King, before the Fellowship, before the Ring,” read the titles: “a new legend must begin”.
While the teaser is only a brief minute long, Lord of the Rings fans were offered the ultimate sneak peek at what that mega-budget afforded the upcoming fantasy.
From breathtaking views of crashing waterfalls and sweeping panoramic shots of green pastures to intricately fantastical costumes and stunning battle scenes, we’ve now got a scale of just how grand The Rings of Power promises to be. J.R.R. Tolkien‘s Second Age has finally reached our screens.
As for folks we’re introduced to in the teaser trailer, the brief clip features a cast including Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Kip Chapman, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Will Fletcher, Markella Kavenagh, Sophia Nomvete, Charlie Vickers, Benjamin Walker, and Daniel Weyman.
The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power will take place thousands of years before both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings sagas, with a second season of the series already in the works.
Per Prime Video’s description of the series, The Rings of Power will “take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and one of the greatest villains that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.
“Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth.
“From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the farthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.”
Along with the folks in the teaser trailer, the series stars Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Leon Wadham, and Sara Zwangobani.
The series is helmed by showrunners and executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. They’re joined by EPs Lindsey Weber, Callum Greene, J.A. Bayona, Belén Atenzia, Justin Doble, Jason Cahill, Gennifer Hutchison, Bruce Richmond, and Sharon Tal Yguado, working alongside producers Ron Ames and Christopher Newman. Wayne Che Yip will co-executive produce, also directing with J.A. Bayona and Charlotte Brändström.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will stream weekly on Prime Video beginning on Friday, September 2.
