Fans argue Netflix original Alice in Borderland is better than Squid Game
Thriller fans have flocked to social media to urge Netflix viewers to dive into a series they claim is “better” than uber-popular Korean drama Squid Game.
WARNING: Squid Game spoilers below.
The fictional Squid Game may not actually be afoot, but there’s another battle the show is waging in the real world.
Fans of the series are taking to social media to debate which Netflix Original is better: Squid Game, or Alice in Borderland? It’s a tight competition, and we’re here to unpack all the takes.
Both mystery-drama series present similar premises. While this year’s Korean hit Squid Game follows a group of strangers competing in deathly children’s games for a major cash prize, the 2020 Japanese series Alice in Borderland follows a group of gamer friends competing in games in an empty version of Tokyo to stay alive.
Both Netflix Original series have grown massive fanbases online, and while there’s a lot of overlap, the fanbases have begun a debate as two which is better.
More than anything, Alice in Borderland fans are simply upset that Squid Game is receiving way more love than the other series.
Recently, Netflix announced the show is even on track to dethrone Bridgerton as the streamer’s most popular series of all time.
In fact, the show is so popular that it’s actually clogging up internet traffic in Korea, resulting in a lawsuit against Netflix.
“The best part about squid game blowing up is that people are finally watching alice in borderland,” one Twitter user wrote.

Fans are especially comparing two tragic episodes – spoiler alert for those of you who haven’t seen both shows – involving the deaths of Ji-yeong in Squid Game Episode 6 and the three major deaths in Alice in Borderland Episode 3.
“People crying over ep 6 of squid game clearly haven’t seen ep 3 of alice in borderland,” one user shared. “That sh*t still traumatised me till this day.”

And what about the games themselves? On Twitter, fans debated which game they’d rather participate in.
“Squid game ruins you mentally, but physically you still have a chance,” one user hypothesised.
