‘Emily in Paris’ loses a key character ahead of Season 5
One of the key cast members from the frothy Netflix hit will not return for the much-anticipated fifth season, it’s been announced.
Au revoir!
Emily in Paris will begin filming Season 5 in May, but at least one major character won’t be back — and the absence will throw a wrench in a huge plot line since the show’s beginning.
Season 4 was especially dramatic, with Emily (Lily Collins) dating Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) after Camille (Camille Razat) left him at the altar.
The love triangle hit a snag when Camille — who had been having an affair with her Greek girlfriend, Sofia (Melia Kreiling) — thought she was pregnant with Gabriel’s baby.
She later discovered the pregnancy scare was a false alarm.
Emily’s complicated relationship with Gabriel and Camille wasn’t her only love triangle in the series. She also flip-flopped between Gabriel and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) and her latest lover, the Italian fashion scion beau Marcello.
As for who will not be returning when Emily in Paris starts production next month,Variety reported on Thursday that French actress Camille is out.
Creator Darren Star previously hinted at the 31-year-old’s exit.
“I think she’s always going to be part of the series — she’s part of their world and I would never rule out the fact that we’re going to see her again. Her story is going to continue,” he told The Wrap.
“Characters can come in and out of a series, but you don’t necessarily have to see them. We may or may not. I don’t know how much of Camille we’ll see next season. But again, she’s part of the world of the series. I’m not sure how soon we’ll see her, but it doesn’t mean, again, that we won’t be seeing her.”
The cast shake-up isn’t the only new change.
Fans will see Emily in Rome after last season she moved into an Italian apartment to open a new Agence Grateau office — but she won’t be ditching Paris completely.
“Emily’s going to have a presence in Rome,” Star explained Tudum. “It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris, but she’s going to have a presence in Rome.”
Sending Emily to Italy to open up a new office was borne out of Star’s desire to “stay ahead of the audience and take them to unexpected places,” and prove “the show has the ability to have a bigger footprint.”
In September 2024, Collins opened up about her hopes for Season 5, noting she “definitely” wants to explore more of Italy with her pals by her side.
“I can’t be there alone. That’s not going to be fun. I mean, it will be fun moments, but I’m saying I need my girls,’ she said. ‘We gotta find a way to make it a group experience,‘” she told The Hollywood Reporter at the time.
She quipped, “I love Rome, but there’s so many other places in Italy, right?”
