WARNING: Contains spoilers to the Season 1 finale of The Day Of The Jackal
It was BINGE and Foxtel’s biggest new scripted series launch this year, so there’s no surprises that this week’s season finale of The Day Of The Jackal was as explosive as they come.
The British action thriller, starring Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne as a stone-cold assassin, attracted more than 3 million viewers in the UK alone in the first week it premiered in early November.
The Season 1 finale aired on Thursday, shocking many viewers after a lead character was killed off in gripping scenes.
In the episode, fierce MI6 agent and firearms expert Bianca Pullman (played by Lashana Lynch) is gunned down after a tense stand-off with the Jackal (Redmayne), who shoots her dead, much to the shock of viewers.
“What an ending for Season 1. Had me at the edge of my seat. Brutal,” one tweeted, while others wrote:
“Brilliant – but shocking – ending to The Day of the Jackal, and a nice setup for Season 2. Thoroughly good stuff.”
Stream The Day Of The Jackal on BINGE, available on Hubbl.
“Wayyo Bianca, i thought she was bulletproof they way she operated. Season 2 of the Day of the jackal go make sense, it will be About Vengeance and vengeance.”
“The ending of the day of the jackal is satisfying, Bianca was a bait after all.”
“Ngl I didn’t expect The Day of the Jackal to end like that.”
The kill comes after Bianca was obsessively trying to hunt him down the Jackal in a quest to unmask the dangerous assassin.
Making the task more difficult is his ability to shapeshift his look and identity before every kill with prosthetics, wigs and make-up.
British actor Redmayne has transformed on-screen before on various films.
He portrayed a transgender woman in The Danish Girl and morphed into physicist Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything; the former scored him a Best Actor nomination in 2014, the latter won him the Oscar the following year.
But his transformations are next-level in The Day Of the Jackal, proving he is the master of disguises.
And with Season 2 on the horizon, it’s anyone’s guess what Redmayne’s character will shapeshift into next.
The Day of the Jackal Season 1 is now streaming on BINGE and Foxtel, available on Hubbl
