British actor Stephen Graham cast in major biopic after stellar turn in Adolescence
Stephen Graham, star of chilling Netflix series Adolescence, is everywhere right now – and now he’s set to star in a major Hollywood biopic.
If you don’t know the name, you certainly know the face.
British actor Stephen Graham is everywhere right now, thanks to his stunning performance in the smash-hit Netflix miniseries, Adolescence.
In the chilling crime drama, Graham plays Eddie Miller, the father of a 13-year-old boy named Jamie (played by Owen Cooper) who is accused of murdering his female classmate.
The four-part series has already attracted awards buzz, with many calling for Graham to be recognised for his stellar work in the drama.
But it seems the 51-year-old may also turn industry heads with his upcoming movie role. In Deliver Me from Nowhere released later this year – a blockbuster biopic about Bruce Springsteen’s life – Graham is set to play the music legend’s father Douglas “Dutch” Springsteen, a casting call that Bruce himself gave the tick of approval.
The 20-time Grammy winner even texted Graham to thank him for bringing his late father back to life on the big screen.
“His text just said, ‘Thank you so much. You know, my father passed away a while ago and I felt like I saw him today and thank you for giving me that memory,’” Graham shared with Scottish radio Edith Bowman on her podcast Soundtracking.
“I was crying reading the text, do you know what I mean? Oh mate, it was beautiful. You couldn’t ask for anything more, you know, to share that with someone was gorgeous. He’s a lovely man.”
While some viewers are just now being introduced to Graham, thanks to his turn in Adolescence, he is a beloved part of the British film industry with the actor nominated for a whopping eight BAFTAs and five Screen Actor’s Guild Awards throughout his career.
He has starred in TV series such as Broadwalk Empire, Boiling Point and Bodies, and worked on films including Snatch, The Irishman, and most recently Venom: The Last Dance.
Graham has also starred on the cult favourites The Crew and Journey’s End – both of which are now available to stream on Tubi.
For those unfamiliar with Tubi, it is a 100 per cent free streaming service that you may already have installed somewhere on your phone, tablet, smart TV or gaming console.
When the platform first launched in Australia in 2019, it housed just 7000 movies and television series. Today, it has a larger content library than any other streaming service on the market, with more than 275,000 premium movies and TV episodes and 300 exclusive Tubi originals.
Earlier this year, Tubi announced it had surpassed 97 million monthly active users and streamed over 10 billion hours during the 2024 calendar year globally.
Among its titles to stream are Graham’s filmsThe CrewandJourney’s End.
In the 2008 heist movie The Crew, the actor plays big-time crime boss Franner looking to avenge the death of his underworld henchman.
Meanwhile, in the 2017 war movie Journey’s End, Graham plays a lieutenant in a story of a group of British officers on the frontline trenches in France during World War I, who await rescue with their war-weary alcoholic Captain Stanhope (played by Sam Claflin).
The film also stars Paul Bettany and Tom Sturridge.
