‘Are we done?’: Larry David’s painful red carpet interview
He was at the red carpet premiere of his own show, but it seems Larry David was in no mood to field questions from the press.
Famously grumpy Curb Your Enthusiasm star Larry David lived up to his reputation at the Hollywood premiere for his show’s upcoming final season, barely enduring a red carpet reporter’s questions.
The Seinfeld co-creator started Curb back in 1999, and with intermittent breaks, the show has now been on the air for 11 seasons.
With David now 76, the upcoming twelfth season of Curb will be its last – and it seems David is more than ready to wrap up his publicity commitments for the HBO hit.
Variety reporter Marc Malkin got a slew of very Larry David responses when he stopped him on the red carpet for a brief chat.
“Why is this the final season?” he asked first, which earned a long, sceptical look from David.
“Out of all the questions? It was time …” David offered, acknowledging that while he may have said he was finished with the show before, he “wasn’t 76” then.
Malkin asked about David’s post-Curb plans – namely, a stand-up comedy “tour” he has booked.
“It’s not a tour. I’m not going on a tour. I’m doing two appearances – so what?”
David then quickly shut down several questions about Curb’s massive run of guest stars over the years, refusing to name either a favourite celebrity who’s been on the show or one he was unable to secure for a cameo.
He did, however, name his favourite episode – the season 8 Curb classic ‘Palestinian Chicken’ – before Malkin truly wore out his welcome by asking David for his favourite catchphrase from the show, even trying one out himself.
“Are we done?” David shot back. “Are we done?”
“No, I don’t want to be done with you Larry! I love this show so much!” Malkin protested.
“Where’s my HBO representative? We’re done with him, right?” David asked, before moving on.
The season 12 premiere of Curb Your Enthusiasm will air locally on Foxtel and BINGE from February 5, with new episodes dropping each Monday leading up to the series finale on April 8.
