Amazon Prime advertises $40k three-month movie watching job

It might be time to quit your day job – for three months anyway – as one streaming service is offering $40k just to watch television.

Prime Video Buff applications across Australia

A “dream job” with a major streaming service is up for grabs, offering one lucky candidate thousands of dollars to watch TV.

Amazon Prime has advertised the role as “Prime Video buff” and is looking for someone to stream their content over the summer and share their thoughts.

“Quite simply, you’ll get paid to watch Prime Video content and then recommend the best to Australians over summer,” the job advertisement reads.

“Pretty much, doing what you do anyway – but you’ll earn money for it.”

On Wednesday, Prime Video Australia senior scripted development executive Sarah Christie told 3AW Radio that it was the best job available right now.

“Honestly, we’re really just on the hunt for a content junkie to join the team to help Aussies pick what to watch,” Ms Christie said.

“We know there’s just so much content in there now and it can get pretty hard to choose.”

She said the selected candidate would be paid $40,000 to stream the latest Prime Video content on a full-time basis for three months and recommend the best viewing to Australians.

“It’s not the ordinary job, so we are really looking for someone who lives and breathes content – everything from blockbusters, rom-coms, cult classics – we want someone who just kinda loves talking about content and recommending the best, giving opinions freely and feels comfortable talking over the camera.”

She said Australians were increasingly content obsessed, with research showing Aussies are spending about 15 hours a week streaming. That’s the equivalent of about 67 movies a year.

“We have so much on offer – about 10,000 titles – and it can be really hard to choose,” Ms Christie said.

To apply, those interested must submit a short video entry, showing why they should be successful.

The video should also display knowledge of film and television and should be shorter than two minutes.

Other job benefits include working from home, a “fancy Prime Video buff chair,” and access to red carpet events.

Anyone keen to apply can do so here.
