Stranger Things star warns season 4 is ‘a lot scarier than previous years’

Production has been halted on the hugely anticipated fourth season of Stranger Things, but one star has shed some light on what we can expect.

The real conspiracy behind Stranger Things

Stranger Things’ Joe Keery has promised fans that season 4 of the popular Netflix drama “is a lot scarier than previous years”.

Production has been halted due to the coronavirus pandemic, but we already have something to look forward to in the new series with the return of fan-favourite Jim Hopper, and Keery revealed that the newest instalment will be the scariest of them all.

The 28-year-old told Total Film: “I think that this year – and I know I say this every single year – but this is definitely going to be a lot scarier than prior years, because last year was pretty dark.”

He also praised the Duffer Brothers, the show’s creators, saying: “Oh man, it’s pretty amazing – the Duffer brothers have really done it again.”

We saw his character Steve Harrington’s relationship with Dustin continue to blossom and he also found his leading lady, in the form of his co-worker Robin Buckley, who helped them to fight off the dangerous Mind Flayer.

David Harbour, 45, who plays cop Jim Hopper, revealed at Liverpool Comic Con that key parts of his character’s backstory will be revealed in the new series.

“There are these three things that we’ve established in the season that if we don’t pay off, it means that they’re bad writers and the Duffer Brothers are very good writers,” the actor said.

“So I know specifically that in Season 4 we will give you a big, huge reveal about Hopper’s backstory.”

The Hellboy star also said the new series of the sci-fi drama was scheduled to drop on Netflix next year.

He said last month regarding season 4’s release date before COVID-19: “It was supposed to come out early next year, I think, although I don’t have authority on this.”

“Now I don’t know. That’ll probably be pushed back. Hopefully we can get back to work but I don’t know what that looks like,” he said.

Just last month, the Duffer Brothers are keeping fans guessing by teasing new angles for the upcoming series.

Posting a photo on Twitter, the show’s writers revealed a list of all the films the team had been watching and discussing for inspiration.

The photo shows a huge whiteboard of film names from the ’80s, ’90s, and ’00s, including such classics as Twister, Paddington 2, The Blair Witch Project, and Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey.
