Popular media personality Joe Hildebrand will skewer the “mastery of the dark art” of political spin in a new quiz-style show to launch on Sky News.

The innovative Friday night panel show The Blame Game, with guest spin doctors, crisis handlers and political insiders, features on the news channel’s 2022 slate and will premiere on January 28.

As Australia gears up for the 2022 Federal Election, Peta Credlin will helm a documentary revealing what goes on behind the scenes as the political parties hit the campaign trail.

Other anticipated docos include MH370: The Final Search, the follow-up to Peter Stefanovic’s ratings winner MH370: The Untold Story, and Erin Molan’s ongoing campaign for online safety.

Molan confirmed in December she had jumped ship from Nine to be a “prime time contributor” at the news network.

Another addition to the daily programming schedule is Business Now with Ross Greenwood which will air from 4.30pm with a wrap of finance and economic news as markets close.

Sky has made a few changes to its prime time schedule with Paul Murray Live moving to the earlier 8pm timeslot.

The network is yet to confirm the launch date for the new weeknight program from controversial British commentator Piers Morgan which will also air in the UK and US as part of a global News Corporation deal.

The Rita Panahi Show will keep the prime time seat warm and then move to a permanent Monday night slot when Morgan kicks off.

Hildebrand said the seed for The Blame Game was planted years ago as he witnessed the daily war between two politically opposed colleagues who would blame everything from “stepping in a puddle to a Kim Kardashian break-up” on the left or the right.

“And this is what spin doctors do every single day. A show like Gruen shows you how advertising really works form the inside and this will show the innards of how politics can take an issue, like say managing a pandemic or whether you got the wrong sauce on your hamburger, and turn it into a political weapon to blame on the left or the right,” he said.

The journalist said the show would also examine how polarising blame games erupt on social media platforms.

“It’s also a bit of sticking a finger up to platforms like Twitter where people take the most ridiculous things and manage to blame it on one side of politics because that’s their footy team,” he said.

Sky News Australia CEO Paul Whittaker said the network would “bring viewers unrivalled coverage of the Federal Election and post-pandemic Federal budget.”
