Game Of Thrones: Why [SPOILER] isn't dead

WE’VE barely recovered from the shock of the Game of Thrones finale, but the internet is already teeming with hints about the plot of season six.

WARNING: Season five spoilers ahead

The latest example gives us a quick look at Tyrion’s upcoming storyline. As you may recall, everyone’s favourite Lannister has been left to govern Meereen in Daenerys’ absence, with old pal Varys by his side.

Footage recently uncovered by the Game of Thrones fan website Watchers on the Wall showed English actor Tehmina Sunny reading for a new role — that of a Red Priestess called Kinvara.

The clip has since been removed, but the full script was published on io9.com. Here it is:

Kinvara: “Her dragons are fire made flesh. A gift from the Lord of Light. But you’ve heard all of this before, haven’t you? On the Long Bridge of Volantis? The dragons purify nonbelievers by the thousands, burning their sins and flesh away.”

Tyrion/Varys: “Ideally, we’d avoid purifying many nonbelievers. The mother of the dragon has followers from many different faiths.”

Kinvara: “You want your queen to be worshipped and obeyed. And while she’s gone, you want her advisers to be worshipped and obeyed.”

Tyrion: “I’d settle for obeyed.”

Kinvara: “I will summon mummers and appoint priests. They will spread the word. Daenerys has been sent to lead the people against the darkness ... for this war, and the great war yet to come.”

Varys: “That sounds excellent. A man named Stannis Baratheon was appointed as the Chosen One by one of your priestesses. He too had a glorious destiny. He attacked King’s Landing, and was soundly defeated by the man standing beside me. Last I heard, he’d been defeated again. This time at Winterfell ... and this time for good.”

This script sounds genuine. It’s certainly nice to see Tyrion and Varys back together, being their witty, cynical selves. And if they have to deal with someone like Melisandre — the other Red Priestess we’ve met on the show — it will undoubtedly create a fascinating plot thread.
