Sandra Sully, Matt Preston and more reveal their top Ten as network celebrates 50 years

MATT Preston’s fave has nothing to do with cooking, and Osher Gunsberg’s pick see lives on the line. Will you agree with the celebs choice of top Ten shows?

CHANNEL 10 is celebrating its 50th birthday with a special look back at its favourite shows this weekend.

We’ve joined the party by asking celebrities for their top Ten pick.

Jonathan Coleman (Studio 10): The Comedy Company

“I was a huge fan of The Comedy Company and have since had the pleasure of working with Mark Mitchell many times since then.

The strange thing was returning to Australia after 16 years of TV and radio in the UK and buying a house with my wife and two kids which turned out to be The Australian Idol house so now I’m living the Ten dream.”

Osher Gunsberg (Australian Idol and The Bachelor host): Bondi Rescue

“While I loved my time on Australian Idol, and the role we played in pop-culture history — one of my favourite shows on Ten is definitely Bondi Rescue.

I’m biased because I worked on the first seven seasons of the show — but it’s a great Australian story about some truly great Australians.

Besides the drama, the action and the bronzed bodies — it’s simply about this group of men and women who want nothing more than to help people in danger, often putting their own lives on the line to do so. What’s more Australian than that?”

Sandra Sully (Ten News): The Panel

“I have always considered The Panel to be one of Network Ten’s best ever shows. Its format was bold, brassy and brave.

At the time, the concept was so innovative and creative that it became an appointment to view each week. In the ensuing years, just about every other Network tried to emulate The Panel with varying degrees of success.

I believe it catapulted the news of the day into the conversation of the day and revolutionised the way Australians interact and discuss major events. Interestingly, humour was the surprise key ingredient and guaranteed it ratings success.”

Matt Preston (MasterChef): Neighbours

“I’d love to prove how cool I am by saying The Panel, the first season of Secret Life or Rove Live but in my first five years in Oz I did not miss an episode of Neighbours — that has to be my favourite show.

It’s the show that I came to Australia to write about for the UK and as such it profoundly changed my life.

It also is the last thing on my original MasterChef bucket list I want to tick off — to play the role of Lassiter’s angry head chef or the corrupt successor to Erinsborough’s much loved Mayor Ozturk.”

Ranger Stacey Thomson (Totally Wild): Young Talent Time

“I remember being glued to The Restless Years, Blankety Blanks and Perfect Match, but the show that brings back some of my happiest childhood TV memories is Young Talent Time.

Each week I’d look forward to watching Johnny Young and the amazing young talent.

There was nothing else like it … and we all had our favourites.

Mine was Karen Knowles, Jamie Redfern and little Tina Arena. Those were the days.”
