Hugh Jackman was hit with a curly question about his relationship status on TV, before Ryan Reynolds jumped in to answer.

Trust Ryan Reynolds to address the elephant in the room.

The witty US actor co-hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live! overnight with Australian co-star Hugh Jackman, as the dynamic pair hit the promo trail for their Marvel movie Deadpool & Wolverine, which hit cinemas Thursday.

In a lengthy monologue to open the show, which is filmed in front of a live audience in California, the duo traded their signature barbs before taking a series of pre-recorded questions from children on the spot.

One question came from 11-year-old Maya, who asked Reynolds and Jackman if they were “looking for a girlfriend”, adding, “because they both look very lonely.”

Cut to awkward scenes in the studio, with Reynolds first clarifying he is indeed, married, to US actress Blake Lively, whom he wed in 2012.

Things were a little more curly for Jackman, who famously announced his split from his wife of 27 years, Australian actress Deborra-Lee Furness, last September.

“Thank you for asking,” Reynolds interjected.

“I mean, I’m married. And Hugh is …” he paused, before stumbling his words and trailing off inaudibly.

Handling it like a true professional, Jackman simply laughed at his own expense as Reynolds yet again jumped in to fill the silence.

“But the answer is yes, we do get lonely sometimes,” Reynolds continued.

Finally chiming in, Jackman offered, “But luckily, we have each other.”

It comes after The Greatest Showman star was photographed attending the Wimbledon women’s singles final earlier this month with British actress Kate Beckinsale.

Jackman, 55, and Beckinsale, 50, could be seen sharing a hug as they arrived at Centre Court at the All England Club, watching on as Czech player Barbora Krejcikova beat Italy’s Jasmine Paolini to take home the title.

The high-profile duo have known each other for years, starring in the 2004 film Van Helsing.

Jackman’s private life has been the subject of tabloid fodder since his break-up with Furness, the long-standing pair having spent the entirety of Jackman’s career progression in Hollywood side-by-side.

In a joint statement issued last September, the former couple, who share two children, said their “journey was shifting”.

“We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” the pair said.

“Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.

“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority.

“We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.

“We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”
