Reese Witherspoon says she’s “trying” for season 3 of Big Little Lies
Reese Witherspoon has said she’s “trying” to get the wheels moving for a third season of Big Little Lies, and she revealed the A-list name she wants to sign on.
It turns out there are talks underway for a third season of Big Little Lies, despite writers previously squashing chances of another trip to Monterey.
The salacious HBO series has run for two seasons, which are available to stream on Binge, and since it first aired in 2018 has picked up a host of Emmys, glowing reviews and a very large fan following.
When season two aired its final episode last year, viewers were still left with some burning questions but Australian author Liane Moriarty, who penned the original book, dismissed calls for third series when she told news.com.au in June she was “probably” done with the story.
“I feel like this will be it … it was only meant to be one season. My feeling is that this will probably be it,” she said at the time.
But one of the show’s lead actresses, Reese Witherspoon, who played Madeline, hosted an Instagram live chat with co-star Laura Dern (Renata), where she revealed they were “trying” to produce a third chapter.
“We want to do it, we're just kind of waiting … We're trying guys!,” Witherspoon said.
“We're trying to come up with the right story."

During the live session, Dern said she received a text from fellow co-star Nicole Kidman (Celeste), revealing, “(Kidman) just texted that we have to do another one right away," Dern said.
“I really do fantasise that we'll do it again because … (I) miss those characters. We're so lucky. They're just the best characters.”
Season two saw the introduction of Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep, who played Mary-Louise Wright, the mother of the late Perry, Celeste’s dead husband.
And Witherspoon has big plans for another A-list act to join the already star-studded ensemble, which also includes Shailene Woodley as Jane and Zoe Kravitz as Bonnie.
“I'm always hoping for J.Lo to show up, just because I really enjoy some J.Lo,” Witherspoon said.
Fans commenting on the live video suggested guest appearances from Julia Roberts, Frances Conroy, Brad Pitt, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Alyssa Milano, Gwyneth Paltrow and Sandra Bullock.
