Voice coaches stunned by 12-year-old contestant
The Voice coaches couldn’t believe their eyes when they turned their chairs to see this young contestant last night.
A stunning performance by a 12-year-old singer on The Voice has left all four celebrity judges with jaws dropped and eyes teary.
Janaki Easwar from Melbourne is the youngest artist to ever audition on the Aussie version of the TV singing competition.
But her age was just a number, with her moving rendition of Billie Eilish’s Lovely and an Indian classical number both moving the judges and the audience to a standing ovation.

On night two of The Voice Blind Auditions, Janaki appeared slightly nervous before her performance in front of judges, Aussie artists Keith Urban, Jess Mauboy, Guy Sebastian and British singer Rita Ora.
“A lot of other artists are twice my age, three times my age, sometimes even four times my age,” she said to the camera.
“It’s scary thinking I’m the youngest here.”
But after she walked out on to the stage, any jitters were gone with her delivering an emotional version of Eilish’s Lovely with “Indian influence”.
Her impressive vocals made Rita turn her chair first, followed by Keith, Jess then Guy.
Her parents in the wings were visibly ecstatic – with her dad fist-pumping and jumping and her mother in tears.
When she finished all four judges stood in applause.

After Janaki’s performance she had to choose which of the four judges she wanted to be mentored by.
Pop star Rita told her she was slightly worried about her age, but could see she was far more mature than her years and had the “right guidance and protection” from her loving parents.
“I don’t think you have any idea how good you really are, that’s what’s so endearing about you,” she gushed.
Guy said the song got “really interesting” when she started to improvise.
“I could tell that was a real musician singing up there,” he said.
Guy then asked if she knew any Indian songs, and if she could sing one.

The performance that followed left Jess and Rita stunned.
Aussie singer Jess then gave her pitch, telling Janaki that she reminded her of a younger version of herself, and felt a connection to her given her own background.
“You just remind me of me. I also didn’t realise how much existed inside of me and you have that power too. I would love to hold your hand and be your coach,” she said.
After struggling with the decision, Janaki eventually chose Team Jess – a logical choice, given even competing coach Rita had dubbed her a “mini you”.
