Tziporah Malkah reveals ‘chronic’ childhood eating disorder on I’m A Celebrity
TZIPORAH Malkah, star of I’m A Celebrity ... Get Me Out Of Here, has opened up about her 35-year battle with a “chronic” eating disorder that started at the age of eight.
TZIPORAH Malkah has opened up about developing a “chronic eating disorder” at the age of eight.
During Wednesday night’s episode on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, the 43-year-old formerly knows as Kate Fischer shared the personal revelation during a discussion about her current weight struggles.
“I won’t eat for two or three days and then I will eat a whole pizza,” she said.
Malkah then said her current issues with nutrition reach back to her childhood.
“I have had an eating disorder since I was eight-years-old,” she said. “I don’t have a healthy relationship with food. Since I was eight and I am 43. I have never eaten healthy within the 35 years. It has been a lifelong condition.
Malkah said her “overeating” began when her parents separated, and it soon turned into a habit that was “difficult to kick”.
“Then I started to not eat and then I got bulimia and all that kind of stuff. By the time I started modelling at 13 I had already had a chronic eating disorder for five years.”
At age 14, she won the Dolly Covergirl of the Year competition and was touted as the next Elle Macpherson. Despite achieving success in an industry that celebrates looks, Malkah still struggled with her image.
“You feel like a misfit, like an ogre,” she said of being the “tall” girl at school. “I felt like Shrek. I have always had a strange relationship with my body. My eyes lie when I look in the mirror. I felt that all the girls were little and blonde and here is big tall Tziporah. I didn’t fit in at all.”
Before going into the jungle, Malkah spoke candidly about her weight struggles as an adult, telling New Idea she will “die prematurely” if she doesn’t follow doctor’s orders and lose weight.
“I’m going to lose at least 20kg, hopefully much more. I’m way too heavy and it’s time to trim down,” she told the magazine. “This is doctor’s orders — he says I’m morbidly obese. My blood pressure is way too high and I’m likely to die prematurely unless I lose weight. So my life depends on this. I’m ready!”
