The Masked Singer’s Dannii walks off over latest celeb reveal

Dannii Minogue had history with tonight’s eliminated Masked Singer contestant - and she momentarily walked off set when they were revealed.

Another celeb has been revealed in the penultimate episode of The Masked Singer this season, with the kebab unmasked as singer and former Australia’s Got Talent winner Jack Vidgen.

And it made for embarrassing scenes for judge Dannii Minogue, who was one of the judges back on season five of Australia’s Got Talent when Vidgen was crowned in 2011 - but who failed to correctly identify that it was Vidgen in the kebab suit.

Minogue briefly abandoned the judging panel when Voice and I’m A Celeb contestant Vidgen was revealed, before returning sheepishly. “This is bad... this is wrong,” she said.

Vidgen admitted he’d tried to disguise his voice during the season in an attempt to throw Minogue off the scent.

It marks the second time this season a judge had failed to identify a contestant they know well, after Jackie O didn’t pick her radio co-host of more than 20 years Kyle Sandilands.

Tuesday night sees the final contestants unmasked after what’s been a star-filled season of The Masked Singer.

The three contestants competing in the finale are Dolly - widely suspected to be Australian comedian and presenter Em Rusciano; Vampire, who is 100% international pop singer Anastacia, and Mullet, who many on social media have picked as former Australian Idol contestant Axle Whitehead.

Dannii seemed gutted she hadn’t picked Jack.

The show started with a big surprise courtesy of first eliminated contestant, international film star Vinnie Jones. Since then there have been local celebs like Sandilands and George Calombaris, singers like Ella Hooper and Ben Lee and one more big-name international guest: Grammy-winning US soul singer Macy Gray.

And it seems Gray was quite a fan of the show: Judge Dave Hughes later revealed that she “refused” to leave the competition after her elimination, saying she wanted to stay and keep performing.

And in an interview with news.com.au last week, Sandilands revealed he had one strict stipulation for his surprise Masked Singer stint: It had to be brief.

“They rang me at the beginning of the season and said ‘You’re the first person we’re asking,’ and I said ‘NO. WAY.’ They said I could name my price, but I just can’t do it – because I couldn’t care less,” he said.

After “some negotiation”, the offer of a single-episode appearance was floated: “I thought, I can definitely pull off one song. Otherwise I was going to be trapped, committed to doing it every week.”

The Masked Singer season finale airs 7:30pm Tuesday on Ten.
