The Block’s Leah and Ash berate builders over weather damage

Leah and Ash have erupted at their Block builders on Monday night’s episode, but flashback footage told a very different story.

The Block’s Leah and Ash have had an almighty row with their builders over weather damage to their Melbourne property.

But flashback footage aired by Channel 9 casts a question over whether they actually had themselves to blame.

The Brisbane-based parents were feeling defeated after placing last for their office space during Sunday’s room reveals, despite receiving positive reviews for the styling.

The lead up to “tools down” had been a nightmare for the couple, whose property was hit with extensive water damage thanks to heavy rain in Melbourne.

On Monday night’s episode, Leah and Ash confronted their Block builders, Simmo and Aidan, to demand answers as to why they weren’t better prepared to brace for the rain.

“What happened on Saturday night was avoidable, and it’s been a misstep,” Leah began.

Simmo responded, “That’s your opinion. We had 10 per cent of Melbourne’s rain in 24 hours.”

Ash then argued, “[But] We knew it was coming.”

Nine producers then flashed to a piece-to-camera of Ash from last week, showing him appearing completely unfazed when asked if he’d taken measures to prevent water damage.

“People are saying, ‘Oh it’s raining.’ And they’re like, ‘It’s 10ml’. I’m like, that’s nothing,” Ash is seen saying. “Should be right. I’m just at the point where if water comes in my roof, I don’t care.”

Cut to Monday night’s argument, and it seems Leah and Ash have laid the blame squarely on their builders.

“You guys are not keeping things safe. You’re not up to scratch with safety,” Leah yelled.

“You haven’t put your life on the line here. You haven’t left your family. I’m here to do a job, I’ve signed a contract to be a contestant and I will deliver a room every single Sunday.”

Ash added, “Everyone’s going, ‘I want to know how you do it [deal with rain] in Queensland, we f***ing do it properly.”

Despite the ambush, Simmo managed to keep it together enough to assure the couple he was doing his best.

“Leah, I’m not sitting here arguing with you. Our job is to be here and build this house as best as we can. We all make sacrifices to be here,” the builder said.

“I understand the position you’re in. It’s really unfortunate what happened last week with your room and I’m sorry for that. We don’t want that to happen. That’s why I was here on Sunday trying to screw that ceiling back up, and trying to help get things ready again.

“We are going to do the very best we can this week to keep your room as dry as possible.”

Toward the end of the episode, Ash took Simmo and Aidan a bottle of scotch to “bury the hatchet”.

“I hate grudges,” he said. “Like, we’re grown ups. Let’s build a house together.”

The Block continues Tuesday on Channel 9 at 7.30pm
