The Block’s Darren Jolly explains strategic scoring: ‘We’ve got to be ruthless’
MONDAY night’s episode of The Block was a doozy, with Daz and Dee resorting to strategic scoring to win the jury vote. But the pair make no apologies for their brutal game-play.
MONDAY night’s episode of Nine’s The Block was an absolute doozy, with Daz and Dee resorting to some ruthless strategic scoring which saw them win the jury vote.
The fiery duo decided to give everyone else a zero for their ensuites, explaining they would rather “leave it with the buyers.” It resulted in a war of words with fellow contestants Tim and Anastasia, who declared: “Payback’s a b*tch!”
The Jolly’s opened up about their controversial game-play with Fox FM radio duo Fifi & Dave this morning, saying it was simply a matter of swooping in first before their competitors had a chance to handicap them.
“I don’t think they loved it, and we found that really funny because they have been really strategic with us all the way through,” Dee said of the teams’ reactions.
“Being the All Stars, they’ve been doing everything they can to block us and give us the chalk and try and block us from winning the $5000 on the Jury Vote. So we thought, let’s strike while the iron’s hot and get in before everybody else and do the zeros, because we knew someone would do it, so we thought, let’s do it and get the $5000.”
Daz agreed with his wife: “I think we’re both very competitive, but I think we’ve both got to be ... we’re in a competition, we’re up against three other couples fighting it out for a big prize.
“We’re not playing a game of Monopoly and unfortunately we had to be ruthless, because we noticed that we were getting the chalk each week and there were rumours going around that they were going to try and block us, so we blocked them.”
The returning Melbourne couple brushed off the criticism they copped from Block viewers for handing out zeros across the board, saying, “I’m sure we’ve got a lot of haters on social media, but we don’t even look at that stuff.”
Dee & Daz need to get their heads out of their arses. shame on channel 9 for asking a bunch of babies back on the show #TheBlock

If Josho pulls this off, Dea and Daz will probably complain that he stole their idea of not delivering a full ceiling. #TheBlock @TheBlock9

Fifi & Dave decided to have a bit of fun with the Blockheads, asking the Double D’s to say the first ‘D’ word that came to mind when they threw names at them.
Here’s how it went down:
Scotty Cam: “Delightful”, “down to earth”
Tim and Anastasia: “Desperate”
Shaynna Blaze: “Delicate”
Keith the Foreman: “D*ckhead”
While the last label might seem harsh, Keith referred to Daz as “the worst contestant ever” during last night’s show.
Daz told the radio hosts he texted Keith after the ep went to air to find out why he said it. Keith is yet to reply ...
The Block Triple Threat continues tonight, 7.30pm on Nine.
