The Block producers scrambled to ‘re-edit’ show after complaints, claims insider

An insider has claimed Channel Nine scrambled to re-edit the hugely popular reality series ahead of its airing.

A big storyline was reportedly “axed” from The Block as producers scambled to re-edit the show ahead of it airing this year.

The latest season of The Block has proven to be one of the reality show’s most talked about yet.

However, that conversation hasn’t always been good.

In October, The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) received complaints from concerned viewers claiming the season was promoting “anti-social” behaviour.

The complained reportedly left Channel Nine concerned, and according to an insider changes were made to the rest of the show’s remaining episodes.

“Major edits were made to protect the brand” an insider told Yahoo Lifestyle.

The last-minute decision was reportedly made after the ACMA received 28 complaints in one week about The Block.

As a result of the changes, it’s thought that some of the contestants weren’t shown on-screen as much as they would have been pre-edit.

The insider continued by saying that such changes aren’t “always good for a comprehensive storyline”.

“It is confusing for viewers as fan favourites are now behaving out of character.”

“This isn’t how the series was originally set to end,” added the source, saying that a major storyline was “dropped” at the last minute.

Meanwhile, one of the biggest talking points of this year’s series has been contestant Kristy.

The reality star has copped severe backlash in recent weeks from viewers for her “evil” behaviour, with the contestant reportedly reducing crew members to tears.

The relationships between the cast have gone from bad to worse, especially since the season began airing.

House 5’s Eliza and Liberty appeared on the Fifi, Fev & Nick last month to claim that the group WhatsApp “diminished the day the show started,” and that they now all have separate groups with their favourites.

“Leah and Ash and Kristy and Brett have realigned again post-show which we just can’t understand and is rubbing us up the wrong way a little bit,” Liberty said.

“We can’t understand why Leah and Ash want to realign themselves with these people again when they’re seeing what they’re seeing on TV.”
