THE Block’s boss has defended the show after twins Alisa and Lysandra launched an attack on it, and revealed they have a reputation for flying off the handle.

THE stinging attack directed at The Block by past contestants Alisa and Lysandra Fraser came as no surprise to those who work on the hit reality show.

Executive producer Justin Sturzaker said the South Australian twins have a reputation for flying off the handle when they’re upset.

“It’s one of the great things about the twins — they react emotionally quite quickly to everything they see,” the TV boss said.

“They always speak first and ask questions later.”

WE’RE NOT LAZY: Twins Alisa and Lysandra Fraser outraged over editing of The Block

Alisa and Lysandra took to Facebook on Tuesday to vent their anger over how their guest appearance on an episode of the current series was edited.

They were at the Melbourne building site to help current hopefuls Chris and Jenna with a pop-up shop challenge, but claim the segment was cut together to make them appear lazy.

“When we work day and night every single day to build our brand it is disgusting how in one night The Block can try and rip it from us,” a message on their Facebook page said.

“If there is 1 thing in this world we are not, that’s lazy! Very very hurtful and utterly disappointed (sic)!”

Among their complaints was the use of footage of Alisa scoffing down McDonald’s, despite being the brand ambassador for Lite N Easy, and then taking a nap.

Sturzaker rejected suggestions their reputations had been damaged by the experience, pointing out that their new homewares brand was heavily promoted throughout the episode.

“The twins have been on The Block over two series and it has worked very successfully for them.

“They’ve won $1 million in prize money along the way and built a fantastic new brand for themselves, going from two cops on the beat to budding interior designers.

“I think they’ve got a pretty good understanding of how it works by this stage.”

He defended the show’s editing process and believes the twins had simply overreacted to the situation.

“We’ve been doing this show for eight seasons and pride ourselves on ensuring the condensing of the footage is a clear reflection of what happened on the day.”

Despite the controversy caused by their outburst, which isn’t the first directed at the franchise which made them household names, Sturzaker said he doesn’t hold a grudge.

“We know exactly what the twins are like. We love the fact that they have strong opinions and I think our audience does as well.

“You always know where you stand with the twins. They don’t hold back. We love them.”

A day after their original message, the sisters took to social media again with a much softer statement.

The message conceded that selective editing is “the nature of reality TV” and the sisters said they were keen to move on.

“I noticed they had cooled down,” Sturzaker said.

“They took a more reflective approach which I guess they now wish had been their first post.

“They’ve sometimes regretted things they have said in the (heat of the) moment in the past. We certainly don’t hold any grudges against them.”
