The Block 2019: Matt accuses Mitch and Mark of “cheating”

A furious Matt has unleashed at professional house flippers Mark and Mitch after he discovered their sneaky tactic for getting ahead.

One of The Block’s teams have been left fuming after discovering the sneaky trick employed by two other contestants to get ahead of the game.

On Monday night’s episode,The Block ’s teams began work on their next room, the formal living room.

While most of them were scrambling to get the ball rolling, professional house flippers Mitch and Mark had their timber delivered to the Oslo bright and early on Monday morning.

In a piece-to-camera, the couple explained that they had ordered the delivery on Sunday when inspections of each team’s ensuite were underway.

“Our strategy is get your materials on site early so you get all of your building done, and that worked for us,” Mark said.

Matt and Mark had an awkward confrontation over the professional house flippers ordering their materials early.

Not happy with their “strategy” was Matt, who watched Mark and Mitch’s delivery arrive early with amazement — and anger.

“Yeah, I saw that Mitre 10 truck rock up at like 7, 7.30. And I’m like, ‘wow how good is Mitre 10?’” he remarked sarcastically. “They’re amazing, so quick on a delivery.”

As Mark began bringing the timber into his and Mitch’s house he had a tense exchange with Matt, who questioned how he was able to get the materials for the next room there so quickly.

Matt: “When did you order that?”

Mark (joking): “Magic … yesterday.”

Matt: “We were allowed to do that?”

Mark: “Yeah … no-one said we couldn’t

Matt: “Well I thought we weren’t allowed to work ahead.”

An angry Matt accused Mark and Mitch of cheating.

But the couple denied they had done the wrong thing.

A “really annoyed” Matt continued his fuming in an interview with wife El’ise, accusing the crafty duo of breaking the rules.

“It’s not right, you can’t just be working ahead, it should be an even playing field for everyone,” he said.

“It’s a massive leg-up, huge leg-up. I thought that’s cheating, you’re bloody cheating, you can’t just ring ahead and think this is fair.”

But unfortunately for Matt, host Scott Cam ruled the duo had “kept it all above board” and hadn’t cheated — something Mark strenuously denied too.

“We hadn’t started any work, we spoke with our builder and assessed what we thought would be the next room,” he said.

“And (we) knew that if we waited until Monday we wouldn’t get materials until Tuesday, so we ordered early.”

Eventually Matt was forced to concede defeat, admitted the pair had taken a risk that would certainly pay off for them in this week’s room reno.

“If they took the gamble and placed an order and it wasn’t that room maybe it would have backfired on them,” he said. “But good luck to them, they’re in front, so we’ll see what happens.”
