Former Bachelor star Keira Maguire has been left “extremely embarrassed” after admitting to an assault involving a glass at a Melbourne bar.
Maguire, 37, appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court via video link on Thursday morning wearing active wear, where it was heard the reality TV contestant admitted to one count of recklessly causing injury.
The former real estate agent will not receive a criminal record and was not required to enter a plea of guilty after Magistrate Olivia Trumble granted a diversion.
Ms Trumble also denied the release of any charges or police summary regarding the assault, meaning the date and location of the assault remain unconfirmed.
The Herald Sun previously reported that the incident occurred in March at the Osborne Rooftop and Bar in the suburb of South Yarra.
She said police had recommended Maguire pen a letter of apology to the victim, and told Maguire that this was an “opportunity” for her to avoid a criminal record.
Maguire, who dialled into the hearing via a video link wearing black exercise gear, nodded into the camera as the magistrate spoke.
Maguire’s lawyer, Zarah Garde-Wilson, said the incident occurred during a “very heated moment” when Maguire happened to have a glass in her hand.
“She’s extremely embarrassed,” Ms Garde Wilson said.
“It’s entirely out of character for her,” she said.
Ms Garde Wilson said that on the night of the assault, Maguire had been the subject of “antagonising” comments.
The diversion order will last for six months.
