BACHELOR in Paradise couple Megan Marx and Jake Ellis have called it quits after eight months of dating.

But the split appears to be far from mutual, with Ellis revealing he hopes the couple can one day “rekindle our special love and come back together”.

Marx first confirmed the news in a statement posted to her Instagram story on Tuesday, writing that her split from “biggest hearted” Ellis was “destroying”.

“Our first kiss and first date was on a reality TV show — something I’ll always treasure as a beautiful experience and as beautiful memories,” she said.

“The rest, in private, far exceeded the fun/romance of the show as we grew to love and respect each other, and also tease the sh*t out of each other as best friends.

“We’ll be keeping everything else to ourselves — sending love to everyone who has supported us.”

Shortly after Marx posted her statement, Ellis confirmed their split with an Instagram post of his own, writing it that was “the post that I thought and hoped I would never ever have to write”.

“Megan and I are sadly taking a break from our relationship together and words will never express the heartbreak I’m feeling right now,” he said.

Marx and Ellis began dating last year while filming Bachelor in Paradise in Fiji last year.

Their time on the show was tumultuous, with Ellis and Marx involved in a love triangle with Florence Alexandra and opting out of the finale’s commitment ceremony because they didn’t feel ready.

But despite leaving the show early the couple continued dating, appearing loved up on social media and attending events.

However cracks began to show earlier this month when Marx revealed on Instagram the pair had gone through a “rough couple of months” but had stayed together.

Ellis and Marx had been the last remaining couple from Bachelor in Paradise after Tara Pavlovic and Sam Cochrane ended their engagement in June, while Keira Maguire and Jarrod Woodgate announced their split just days ago.
