Bachelor in Paradise star Abbie Chatfield has shared a frightening death threat she received on Instagram.

Bachelor in Paradise 2020 stars revealed

The Bachelor star Abbie Chatfield has shared a series of vile messages she’s received on Instagram since appearing on the Channel 10 show, including one audio clip of a man who threatened to ‘strangle her to death’.

In the clip, the man is heard calling her a “grub” and saying “If I ever got the chance, I’d strangle you to death.”

Telling followers it’s just one of hundreds of violent messages she’s received since she found fame, Abbie, who was the runner-up of Matt Agnew’s season of The Bachelor, said she’s feared for her safety in public as a result of the abuse.

The fed up 24-year-old, who hosts the podcast It’s A Lot wrote: “F*** this. F*** these people,” naming and shaming those who had sent the alarming messages.

“F*** you if you’ve ever messaged anyone something even close to this. This is why people commit suicide after being catapulted into the spotlight by a TV show,” she said.

“These are just 10 of the messages I’ve saved over the last year, I have a whole google drive with HUNDREDS of DMs … Threats of violence, name calling, threats to my safety and general snide comments still happen a year on,” she said, going on to say it was impossible to ignore the hate hurled her way and adding that it’s led to her feeling anxious in public.

“You can’t ignore threats of violence, and attacks on your character. I shouldn’t have to get off social media,” she said,

“I still get worried when people ask for photos with me that they’re going to say something to hurt me or take a photo with me and joke about me with their friends,” she said, adding: “This isn’t a joke.”

Following Matt Agnew’s season of The Bachelor, the star was similarly damning of those who “slut-shamed” her on social media during her time on the show, launching a blistering Instagram tirade after the finale aired.

Taking to Instagram with a bikini photo in the wake of the drama of her “villain edit”, Abbie blasted critics for their double standards, declaring it was “something I did not expect in 2019”.

“Things I got slut-shamed for on #thebachelorau: this bikini, my skort at hometowns, multiple cocktail party gowns, kissing matt ‘without a date’ and at a cocktail party (out of sight of anyone), pashing Matt in various locations with varying degrees of intensity, honestly admitting that I wanted to have sex with a man I was dating for 10 weeks and all around just ‘using sexuality to manipulate Matt’,” she wrote in the lengthy caption.

Abbie will appear in the upcoming season of Bachelor in Paradise, telling New Idea this week that she’s nervous about her portrayal.

“I already am worried about how the edits are going to go,” Abbie told the publication.

“I think when you're on TV, you're a one-dimensional character. And my character was overtly sexual and confident, and to a lot of people that equals 'b***h'.”

It's believed Abbie leaves Bachelor in Paradise early, after she was spotted heading home from Fiji just a few days after the show began filming.
