Bachelor Australia 2019: Abbie claims she ‘blacked out’ during finale filming
Bachelor runner-up Abbie Chatfield claims she has no absolutely recollection of the moment Matt Agnew broke her heart.
Bachelor runner-up Abbie Chatfield has claimed she “blacked out” after being brutally dumped by Matt Agnew and has almost no memory of what happened.
Abbie, along with 1.17 million other Aussies (five capital cities), tuned in to last night’s finale, and it was as if she was experiencing it for the first time, she told news.com.au.
“I kind of blacked out,” she said this morning.
As Abbie stormed away after Matt revealed his decision, the heartbroken contestant could be heard saying, “I wanna get the f**k away from him”. It’s a comment she has no recollection of.
“I don’t remember saying that,” Abbie told news.com.au. “I got back to the hotel and I was scream crying and the producer came in and said, ‘Darl, that was one of the funniest things, you saying that’. I was like, ‘Saying what?’ He told me a dialogue of what I’d said and I had completely blacked out, I can’t remember any of it.”

In last night’s episode, we watched as Abbie was driven back to her hotel after being dumped.
“I feel fine,” she said defensively. “I’m mad about the flight home now. I couldn’t cry if I tried now.
“Maybe I don’t love him. I’m not even upset. I just wanna forget about it. I’ll get over this before it even airs.”
But as the two-hour car journey back to the hotel dragged on and a producer told her she seemed “angry”, Abbie finally broke down in tears, and that’s when her memories from the day kick in.
“That’s when I started to be like, ‘Holy sh*t!’” Abbie told news.com.au this morning.
The jilted reality star also said she felt “a little bit” lied to because Matt had given her a few indications in the final few episodes that he was going to pick her.
“Some things he said to me were also pretty intense, like on and off camera,” Abbie told news.com.au. “That was why I was like, ‘You should have sent me home earlier, you shouldn’t have brought me here’. Everything he was saying to me was sweet nothings.
“I understand that he had a decision to make, but I just wish that he’d toned it back at the end. Because I have a feeling he would have known for a few weeks what he was going to do.”
There was one comment from Matt in particular that gave her false hope, Abbie said.
After she told him she loved him for the first time, viewers only saw Matt kiss her in response, but there was more to the story.
“He actually did say something back, (but) they didn’t include it,” Abbie told news.com.au.
“He kind of did a lovely little speech and he said, ‘There are things I want to say but I can’t’.”
It’s now four months later, and Abbie still wants answers.
“The one question I’d have for him would be, ‘What were those things you wanted to say?’ Were they, ‘Don’t get too invested?’ Because it heavily implies something positive,” she said.
Abbie hasn’t spoken to Matt since the finale was filmed but said she’d be keen to sit down with the astrophysicist and his partner.
“I’d love to if he and Chelsie were OK with it, to have a debrief and ask some questions that I have,” Abbie told news.com.au. “But I don’t think that’s possible.”
Abbie very nearly got the chance to confront Matt and Chelsie this morning when she visited Nova’s Sydney studios for an interview.
As Matt and Chelsie were being interviewed live on air by Fitzy and Wippa, Abbie sat next door in Smallzy’s studio with only a thin pane of glass separating her from the happy couple.
Abbie insisted to Nova’s Smallzy that she was fine after spotting Matt and Chelsie behind her, but a station source told news.com.au that Abbie was in tears in the stairwell after the awkward encounter.
It’s been an emotional morning for Abbie, who also burst into tears during a phone interview with KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O.
After telling the radio duo that she still wasn’t over Matt, Kyle said, “Get over him because I asked those two this morning what was the first sex like. They were on a couch in a hotel in South Africa making out and feeling each other, and then he lifted her up and took her to the bedroom, took all his clothes off and inserted himself.”

Not surprisingly, the comment struck a nerve with Abbie, who could be heard crying on the other end of the phone.
“She didn’t need to hear that,” Jackie O said to her co-host.
“Um … sorry,” Abbie whispered as she tried to regain her composure.
The interview ended not long afterwards.
