This year’s winner’s of The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition have finally been crowned, but there was a heartwarming twist.

It’s been a whirlwind few weeks of racing across the likes of India, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Borneo for this year’s all-star cast of the show’s inaugural season.

After a nail-biting finale Darren McMullen and his nephew Tristan Dougan were technically the winners, but in an incredible twist the pair decided to wait for the rest of the teams before stepping onto the matt.

The happy duo refused to step onto the finishing platform, and instead insisted they would wait so all the teams’ charities could win.

Tristan said: “We think everyone should come on at the same time. Those girls are phenomenal and an inspiration, and I think they deserve to be here with us and stepping on first place.”

Bursting into tears, Emma and Hayley agreed, saying: “We’re just so thankful you didn’t step onto the matt, thank you so much.”

In the grand finale, the three remaining teams first battled to recreate an intricate dessert, but the catch was only one of the pair could see the dessert their partner needed to make.

Wiggle star Emma and her sister, Hayley, started out strong and were the first to begin the desert challenge. However, things quickly took an emotional turn when Hayley realised she had to do the challenge with a python crawling all over her.

However, while Darren and Tristan proved best at being able to calm their nerves, Emma and Hayley still managed to finish first and left the other two pairs in the dust.

Next up the teams headed to a maze-like bookstore where it would prove almost impossible not to get lost. They had to locate the travel section among a sea of books and a treasure map that was hidden among the shelves.

Darren and Tristan once again came out on top and proved to be the ones to beat going into the series of final challenges that recalled the contestants’ memories of previous destinations they’d visited.

The dance challenge proved too much for Angi and Alli Simpson, and the cracks began to show as the pair struggled to nail the routine, especially while witnessing Wiggle’s star Emma slay at what she does best.

With the dance challenge behind them, the team had to put ten images of the amazing locations they’ve raced through into order of when they visited, but it proved more difficult than it sounded.

Darren and Tristan once again came out on top, but were closely followed by Emma and Hayley. It was a race to the final location, but Emma couldn’t hold back her dismay at having lost their initial advantage after the first challenge.

With a nail-biting last few minutes, Darren and Tristan eventually emerged the winners, with Emma and Hayley in second and Angi and Alli in third.

Scottish-Australian television producer Darren McMullen and his nephew Tristan Dougan had been tipped to land at the final pit stop in front of host Beau Ryan first, ahead of the episode airing after a hugely successful run during the rest of the series.

It was a series of ups and downs for fans of the show, after viewer favourites Harry Jowsey and Teddy Brigg were eliminated last week with just one leg to go in the race.
