Sharon and Ankur’s winning guest bedroom slammed by contestants
The latest winning room on The Block was torn to shreds by during Monday’s walk-through, with many puzzled by its high score.
The claws have come out on The Block, with contestants savaging the latest winning room during Monday night’s walk-through.
After a rough start in the competition, Sharon and Ankur came away with a win by playing their bonus point gnome last week, beating tradie couple Dylan and Jenny by just half a point.
But while the couple couldn’t be happier with the result, their fellow contestants were left fuming after seeing the second top-scoring room, with one declaring their guest bedroom “burned his retinas”.
Tom and Sarah-Jane, who came equal fourth with House 5, were the first to check out the room, with outspoken mum Sarah-Jane letting it rip.
“I mean. love Sharon, love Anks but this is … crap,” she said.
Meanwhile, Rachel said: “I mean it’s a nice room, don’t get me wrong. Is it a winning room? To me, this isn’t the same standard as House 4. If I was Dyl and Jen I would be … Not happy.”
On seeing the room for themselves, Jenny admitted she was “a bit shocked” by the room.
“Yeah that’s um … funny. I’m a bit shocked hey. That paint job is just horrific,” she said, asserting that she’s “not a sore loser”.
Elsewhere, Tom pointed out to producers: “The light doesn’t go with that ceiling rose, the ceiling rose doesn’t go with the cornice.
“Dylan and Jenny’s room is next level good, how there is even half a point between them two … I’ll never know.”
Tom had seemingly downplayed his impression of the room, given he was later overheard saying: “House three has burned my f*cking retinas, that was horrible”.
Yikes.
Debriefing with fellow Block contestant Rachel, Sarah-Jane fumed on the phone: “The paint job, the downlights do not light up, the ceiling rose. I’m dead … That’s a last place … I can’t even comprehend.”
Sharon and Ankur’s win comes after the former Neighbours actress was left in tears by the harsh feedback of their guest bedroom in week one.
Judge Shaynna Blaze was so unimpressed by the room, she said if they continued to ignore the heritage features of the grand old home, they’d have her to contend with.
“This is the grand dame, the jewel in the crown. Are you going to treat her like this? Because if you’re going to treat her like this, you’re going to have to deal with me,” the interior designer said.
On checking out their guest bedroom, the judges declared Sharon and Ankur were “back in the game”.
The Block continues 7.30pm Tuesday night on Channel 9
