Seven’s balloon show Blow Up slides further in ratings on night two
Seven’s new family-friendly reality TV offering, Blow Up, sank even further in the ratings after its second night on air.
The Seven Network’s new family-friendly reality TV offering, Blow Up, sank even further in the ratings in its second night on air on Tuesday.
The new show, which sees 10 balloon artists tasked with competing in a range of challenges to win a $100,000 cash prize, debuted at a deflating 19th on the daily ratings on Monday night, watched by just 288,000 viewers across the five metro capitals.
According to TV Tonight, that number dropped to 224,000 in night two, which saw Blow Up drop out of the daily top 20 programs, and come fifth in its timeslot.
It was beaten in the Tuesday 7:30pm timeslot by Ten’s MasterChef Australia (492,000, the ABC’s 7:30 (438,000), Nine’s new offering The Summit (428,000), and the SBS program Who Do You Think You Are? (243,000).
Seven News won Tuesday’s ratings overall, with 945,000 viewers tuning in, while the network’s 5pm quiz show The Chase was the most-watched non-news and current affairs program of the day, with 552,000 viewers.
The night-two ratings for Blow Up represent a 22 per cent drop in ratings from the show’s premiere.
These ratings results are surely disappointing for Nine too, with Jai Courtney-hosted action adventure reality series The Summit struggling to climb much beyond 400,000 viewers after three nights on-air.
Prior to its premiere, Blow Up drew criticism for being a copycat of Nine’s popular show Lego Masters Australia, with host Hamish Blake even poking fun at Blow Up in an episode of his show last month while instructing contestants to create balloon-inspired Lego builds.
“Balloons are good for a part of one episode of a show. No, I don’t think there’s a series in them – but maybe there’s something we’re missing,” he said.
