‘Really?’ Pooch Perfect jokes slammed on Twitter

While a number of Channel 7 viewers lapped up Rebel’s cheeky take on family-friendly telly hosting, others weren’t impressed by some of her rather risque quips.

Channel 7’s MasterChef of dog grooming finally premiered on Thursday night – and while Pooch Perfect was brimming with dog puns courtesy of A-list comic host Rebel Wilson – a few of her more risque quips raised eyebrows on Twitter.

The 39-year-old daughter of professional dog handlers held an enthusiastic approach to the rather bizarre new reality show, which follows 10 professional dog stylists from around the country as they compete in a series of themed challenges to transform their beloved fur babies.

The winner — determined by a panel of industry experts — will take home $100,000.

But while the program has been angled as family-friendly weeknight watching, a couple of Rebel’s joked were seemingly deemed a little too cheeky.

At one point during the “dog walk”, she commented on Monique and Tash’s pooch who had been styled with a pearl necklace.

“Fun fact, a pearl necklace means something different in Norway,” she said to roars of laughter from the audience.

Over on Twitter, however, some viewers were harshly critical of the joke:

Elsewhere, in a voice-over as the show went to an ad break, she said:

“Someone is about to be euthanised …,” before correcting herself, adding: “Oh sorry, eliminated … I always get those words mixed up.”

Early on in the program, the Isn’t It Romantic star introduced the show by saying “Finally, someone shining a positive light on grooming…,” before pausing, laughing, and adding: “You’re welcome Australia.”

One viewer who interpreted the joke labelled it “inappropriate”.

Regardless of the debate over Rebel’s humour, most seemed to enjoy the quirky new weeknight offering.

And they were just as surprised as us:

Pooch Perfect continues next Thursday from 7.30pm on Channel 7.
