Netflix orders new season of hit docu-series Making A Murderer

NETFLIX has just made a huge announcement about the future of true crime docu-series Making A Murderer, and it’s good news for fans.

NETFLIX has ordered new episodes of Making a Murderer, the documentary series following convicted murderer Steven Avery that transfixed viewers in its first season.

The new instalments from executive producers/directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos will look at the post-conviction process for Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey, who were both given life sentences for the 2005 murder of photographer Teresa Halbach.

They will include interviews with Avery’s new lawyer, Kathleen Zellner; Dassey’s legal team, led by Laura Nirider and Steve Drizin; and the families close to the case as they challenge the convictions and the state fights to uphold their life sentences.

The original 10-episode series became a sensation after premiering last December, captivating viewers with its tale of Avery, wrongfully imprisoned for sexual assault for 18 years and then exonerated, only to be convicted two years later for the Halbach murder.

The show, which was critical of Manitowoc County’s handling of the case, made heart-throbs of Avery defence lawyers Dean Strang and Jerry Buting, spurred a petition calling for federal intervention and even drew tourists to Avery’s rural Wisconsin hometown.

Making a Murderer was nominated for six Emmy Awards last week, including outstanding documentary or nonfiction series.

There’s no premiere date yet for the new season.
