Mitch and Mark’s clash with Scott Cam finally over

Mitch and Mark’s fiery clash with Scott Cam ended with a heartfelt apology and group hug in tonight’s episode of The Block.

The explosive two-episode stoush between The Block contestants Mark and Mitch and host Scott Cam finally came to an end tonight.

After kicking off on Sunday over Cam repeatedly calling their second living space a “party room”, Sydney couple Mark and Mitch apologised for the thinly-veiled homophobia accusation and source of fierce debate on Twitter since the weekend.

While Cam maintained he was merely delivering feedback by the judges, who had praised contestants El’ise and Matt for designing their bedroom away from the “noisy people” next door, Mitch and Mark interpreted the “party room” remark a judgment on their lifestyle.

“By 2019 homophobic innuendos are f***ing not on,” a furious Mitch told Cairns couple Tess and Luke following the tense argument with Cam.

“F***ing done with comments from people like him, aimed at people like me. Go f**k yourself,” he fumed.

Last night, Cam approached the couple to explain he meant nothing of the sort by the comments, but following the boys’ reaction, left the discussion in a strop.

Storming off their building site without an apology, Cam said he was “offended” by the boys’ response.

“I was expecting you to say sorry once I explained it, but you didn’t say sorry you said ‘thank you’,” he told the couple.

Tonight, it was Mitch and Mark’s turn to explain themselves, taking the opportunity to rectify their actions from the previous day.

“The other day we had a chat, and we had spoken on you behind your back,” Mitch began.

“You caught us off guard, and I was a bit overwhelmed and I didn’t consider what our actions had been. I just want you to know that we sincerely apologise if we offended you. And I’m upset that I might’ve offended you.” Here, Mark interjected, “And we were wrong.”

Looking genuinely touched by the heartfelt apology, Scott said: “Well, that’s really nice. Thanks boys. And you know I would never have those thoughts in any way whatsoever. Lets hug it out.”

Speaking in a to-camera interview afterwards, Mitch explained: “We felt we owed him an apology, and we wanted to make sure he got that apology and it was genuine. We had been self-centred, and thought about how things were affecting us, and had left Scotty’s feelings out of it.”

“I feel so much better now because I was upset,” the host said after breaking away from their group hug, joking: “I’m glad that you like me again.”

The Block continues tomorrow night at 7.30pm on Channel 9.
