Melissa Leong’s heartwarming moment with contestant Depinder on MasterChef

Depinder’s Bento Box has the judges feeling a lot of different emotions, with Melissa sharing a heartwarming moment with the contestant.

During Wednesday night’s episode of MasterChef, contestant Depinder left judges Melissa Leong, Andy Allen and Jock Zonfrillo absolutely speechless with her Bento Box.

Scarfing the food down as they judged her meal, Jock tried to trick the home cook into thinking she had failed.

“Oh Depinder,” he exclaimed. “I had such high hopes for you today...”

An exhausted Depinder looked defeated at his comment, but ready to take the criticism.

“You absolutely bloody nailed it, well done!” yelled Jock as he goes to high-five her.

“It’s so good! That IS what we wanted!” he continued.

“Precision cooking isn’t necessarily about sharp cuts and all that. The way you’ve kept the onion and the capsicum until the end so they stay crunchy and light, that’s precision cooking.

“Your chickpea curry has a depth... the paneer, delicious. Ground pickles? Get me some of them in a jar! Just SO good,” he continued.

Depinder got very emotional after the huge amount of praise, with her tears warming Mel’s heart.

“This food means a lot to you doesn’t it?” Andy asks.

“Yeah. This is like the stuff that I grew up eating, so this is what you’d have in my house,” Depinder explains.

“Can we come to your house?” an eager Mel asked. “Please?!”

But Jock wasn’t finished with with his compliments just yet.

“Please open a restaurant with this food. Everybody will love it.”

“That’s the plan,” said Depinder.

“Keep cooking with that emotion,” Andy added. “Because it’s powerful.”

As she walked back to her bench Depinder tells the camera, “I’m totally calling my grandma and saying ‘Cheers for that recipe’, because it totally hit the spot.”
