It’s infamous for its explosive drama and fiery confrontations, but Married At First Sight could be headed in a different direction.

With production already underway for season 10 – which will air early next year – Channel 9’s head of content, production and development, Adrian Swift, has revealed in a new interview that they’ve shifted their focus.

“We have tried to move away from the screechy and the shouting,” he told the Herald Sun this week.

“We still give it all the drama that it needs, but we’ve tried to absolutely make sure all the relationships we see genuine potential in.

“This year what we have tried to do really carefully, exhaustively, is go, ‘Is this right?’

“There will still be those moments when [brides and grooms] take one look [at each other] and it all goes south, but we are hoping that there is a lot of love in this season.”

Married At First Sight Australia first aired in 2015 and has become synonymous with controversy – including cheating scandals, jaw-dropping confrontations and fiery dinner party scenes.

Earlier this month, the Daily Mail released details of the first cast members identified for season 11.

It includes Perth-based marketing and PR consultant, Lauren Dunn, business development manager Tori Adams from Melbourne, and Gold Coast influencer Cassandra Allen.

Jayden Eynaud – who many fans will recognise as the brother of previous MAFS groom Mitch Eynaud – has also been photographed on set as filming was getting underway, along with personal trainer Jacob Dunkley and Melbourne real estate agent, Tim Smith.

The next season is also set to feature the series’ oldest-ever groom – a 62-year-old motivational speaker – and the first same-sex male wedding since the marriage equality laws were passed in 2017.
