Married At First Sight’s Tracey reveals real reason behind incessant lip licking

AS DEBATE raged on about the most talked about MAFS theory, Tracey has come forward and given her own answer.

WHEN it comes to Married At First Sight bride Tracey Jewel, two questions have dominated the public conversation about the 35-year-old Perth local.

The first was how in the hell she could put up with her fake husband Dean’s constant sh-tty behaviour, even in the face of overwhelming evidence he is what the kids call “a f-ckboi”.

The second — smeared across comments sections, memes and even this deep-dive from James Weir — is “why can’t she stop licking her lips?”

It seems that now, while she’s staying mum on the former, Tracey has opened up about the real reason for the latter.

In an interview this morning with Nova’s Chrissy, Sam and Browny, Tracey and Dean were subjected to the show’s own version of an “honesty box” — a nod to the truth-telling exercise they went through on Wednesday night’s episode.

In the segment, listeners were able to submit their own questions, and the couple had to answer honestly.

One of the questions was “why do you lick your lips so much, and are you aware of it?”

The long-suffering Tracey replied, “I’m aware of it now!”

“I think it’s because I’m nervous,” she continued. “I think it’s a nervous tic. I’m always put under the pressure, it’s me trying to process what is going on.”

Tracey’s tongue has become a surprise star of the series.

There you have it. Much like an iguana testing the air for danger with its tongue, Tracey’s salivary habit is a result of extreme stress. Given the situation she has been thrown into, it’s hardly surprising that a nervous tic would develop.

Previously, viewers have speculated that the habit was a result of Tracey’s lips having been enhanced with fillers, thus having pulled the internal mucosa to the outer edge of her lips, making it dry.

A cosmetic surgeon who spoke with news.com.au, however, dismissed these claims, backing up Tracey’s contention that it’s just a nervous habit.

“Licking the lips is a habit which tends to be self-perpetuating, as the lips become drier through the licking, stimulating more licking,” said Dr Mary Dingley at Cosmetic Physicians College of Australasia.

“I think it’s just a habit.”

The couple also had to field other probing questions, including one that addressed a recent Daily Mail article showing pictures of Tracey “holidaying” in Bali with fellow cast member Sean Thomsen.

When asked about the holiday, Tracey quashed rumours of a relationship.

“He was already in Bali with Jesse from MAFS last year ... Jesse and Sean were already there and I was heading to Bali,” she said.

Dean was also grilled on his behaviour, with one listener asking, “Are you mad at producers? No one can be as bad as they’ve made you look on the show”.

Surprisingly, however, Dean refused to pass the buck.

“There have definitely been times when they have really spiced it up a bit and left out all the positive things I’d said,” he began, “but in general what you see is real, it’s kind of what happened.”

“They kind of encourage you a little. No, everything we do, everything I did, I did on my own stupid self. Even a lot of people on the show were asking me if I was an actor.”

Now that the mystery of Tracey’s lip-licking has been put to rest, we’re just going to have to wait for the MAFS finale to get the other answers we’re looking for about her relationship with Dean.
